I have depression and an anxiety disorder and take several medications, so I go to the clinic pretty often.
I have to fill out paperwork sometimes and they always ask my sexual orientation.
And I really...don't understand why they need to know?
Like what does it matter what my sexuality is to a doctor?
I've been told it's in case of sexually transmitted diseases, but again - what does it matter what my sexuality is?
Everyone can get them so I don't know why they have to know my specific sexuality?

It's not a big deal for me to answer it, I just don't understand the purpose.
I do know they used to only list straight, bi, and gay and I'm none of those.
My mom would usually put I was straight because that was the closest, I guess xD

That is an odd question for them to ask since you're only going for your anxiety and depression.

I have anxiety too. Medication makes it bearable though. I hope your medication works well for you, Moi.

I know right? It's not that it offends me, I just don't see a purpose o_O

I'm sorry you have anxiety too. I wish there was a way to make it to where no one ever had issues with it.

I've had my medications for a long time and they seem to help.
I wish they could do more, though.

Man, my life would be so much better without the anxiety xD

I just had a thought. Maybe they're asking because most people nowadays seem to want to share that particular piece of information? IDK, just a thought. I can't say I'd be offended if someone asked me but I'd prefer they didn't unless I know them. Most of my generation kept that private. :qlol:

I know. It's hard. I've kind of accepted that I'll always be a nervous person. I'm just thankful I'm not in fight or flight mode all the time anymore. That was miserable. :qd:

Maybe you should talk to your doctor about the medication you're on. Maybe they could do more?

I agree. When I go to the doctor they ask if I have ever been with a man who has been with other men. For one thing, I don't know the history of everyone I have ever been with. For another thing, people can get STDs either way, so it really doesn't matter for medical purposes, which makes it an odd question.

OKAY- a bit of humor here:
This situation always reminds me of The Fifth Element.
If you've seen it, then you'll perhaps remember the scene where the cops try to identify the protagonist. They ask him "Sir, are you classified as human?" and he responds with "Negative, I am a meat popsicle."

Like, what if you wanted to respond that you're icecream-oriented? Write it down, doc XD

That is one of my favorite movies. :qsml:

Come to think of it, I think they've asked me some odd questions when I went to give blood too. I can't remember all of them because it's been so many years, but I believe they involved needing to know who my partner had been with. Like I could ever know for sure. *rolls eyes*

Yeah, they've allowed to you select more than straight, bi and gay.
Used to just be those and you had to pick one.
Now they let you write what you are.
I guess it's progress xD

I did talk to them. They made me an appointment to speak to someone and I skipped the appointment xD
I had heard some bad news and had been crying and didn't want to go to the appointment.

Sanssouci: Right. I know they ask me if I'm sexually active and the answer is always no.
I know they have to ask, but I've been going to this clinic for a longass time.
You'd think they'd get tired of asking me xD

Koi: I've never seen that movie.
But it seems like I'd make a comment like that.
Actually...I have thought about it.
I was going to write something ridiculous down, but I forgot what it was.
I didn't write it, though...Kinda wish I had xD

It would be valuable for them to have that and all sorts of seemingly-useless information for the purposes of statistics and tracking depression and other disorders.

If you're a gay male and there for depression say, and they see a lot of gay males, they can then say something like "gay men are 3 times more likely to be depressed than lesbian women," which is helpful when quantifying social problems and getting help for them.
