Kuuki wrote:Yup. I read that printing it out if you write on the computer does help with editing because you see it in another form and it helps you see it in a new light.

I kinda feel like it's a waste of paper though.
I've heard the same thing, that printing stuff helps, but I also feel like that's a waste of paper as well, so I never do. xD

And I'm waaaay too lazy to ever participate in NaNo, lol.

Actually, I made it so it could be both a stand-alone or the first book of a series. Which is also part of why I really would like to see it published.
I could totally use the main characters again and send them off on another adventure together. Or write a prequel.

@Moon Star: I thought I was lazy as well. Which is why I ONLY write during NaNo XD

I'm so lazy that I won't even write during NaNo. :'D

And that actually sounds interesting, Kuuki! Can't wait to see your published book on the shelves. xD

I don't really worry about "wasting paper", since I'm firmly of the opinion that supporting paper use means supporting the paper industry which means supporting the forestry industry -and any industry that keeps the land planted and replanted and replanted in trees is still MUCH better than, say, selling the land to be turned into a commercial dump instead of a commercial forest.
To choose a non-random example in the county next to us....

I'm still bitter about it.

I would agree with you, except that the forestry industry here is pretty much composed of trees with very very highly allergens producing pollen.
Three years after coming here I ended up developing pollen allergies that I didn't have before. It's hell and it's already starting.

Not really XD

My son sometimes asks me to tell him choose-your-own-adventure stories... of gerbils.
My husband suggested I should write those.

I feel writing for children is too difficult, I would not find the right tone.
I think I'd prefer writing for teenagers or YA. But because I work with teenagers I would feel quite embarrased!

Wait, what? Explain the whole gerbils thing, please, because that sounds hilarious AF.

And yeah, I think writing for children is one of the harder things, simply because you need to strike the right balance of tone, vocabulary, keeping it simple without sounding (I guess) patronizing, yada yada.

And it's not like the teens you work with have to know you wrote a book, as you can always go with a nom de plume. ;D

Eh, that's what editors are for.

Write it anyhow and use a penname, and then the teenagers you work with will never know!

We recently adopted a gerbil.
Gerbils are little rodents, who live in desertic areas. They usually enjoy having company and we are currently looking for a mate - now that we finally know our little gerbil is male we can get another male.

Anyway.
Do you remember those choose-your-own-adventure books that were quite popular a few decades ago?
The story begins and the reader is given a choice: you do this or that?
Depending on your choice, you keep reading on a different page. After a while, you have another choice, and another, and another.
Therefore there are a dozen or more different ends for the same story.

We had some old books of that kind, my son enjoyed them.
When he goes to bed we don't read - I either sing or I improvise an story.
So he once asked me to create a choose-your-own-adventure story in which the main character was our gerbil, living in the desert with his friend.
And he loved it, so he asks for a new one everyday!
