If you buy a book do you prefer the hardover or the softcover version?

Here in Germany it's also a price(y) decision because the hardcover costs more than 3 times the softcover.

I always prefer the hardcover version.
That's what I call a book. I like to hold it and read it. And I like how it looks on the shelf ;)
I think a good book itself deserves the hardcover version.

I used to only buy hardcover, but that was until I had to start paying for the books myself. Now I usally pick the smaller soft cover ones. Since buying a hard cover is sometimes double the price of a soft cover book. It also gives me a feeling they take up less space, but that might just be a ridiculous thought.

I'd prefer hardcover, but since softcover is cheaper, that's what I buy (unless I have to wait for the softcover edition, in that case, I'll buy the hardcover instead of waiting)

I like to go to the library for books, but I prefer the hard-cover versions of the books I read. It somehow feels right when I read with it. I also have this fear of damaging a book that's as soft and fragile as a paper back.
If I ever buy books, though, I tend to buy the paper back books. They are cheaper, and will probably be sitting on my shelf before I forget enough of the book to want to read it again (that would be a few years :qhehe: ).

I get two copies of books that I really like: a hardcover for home and a soft cover for elsewhere (I tend to have a book with me at all times, just about wherever I go). That way, the hardcover books don't get ruined.

I have to say that I prefer softcover. The price of hardcover books is astronomically higher, yet the content is the same, so I'd rather purchase the cheaper option. I also enjoy the more flexible feel of softcover books, though I do agree that hardcovers look more impressive on a shelf.

I love hardcover books because they're not as fragile as paperbacks. I always carry a book in my bag and tend to just trough things back into it when I'm done with it, so paperbacks always end up with bent or ripped pages. Hardcovers are more expensive but it's worth it for me.

I buy my favorites in hardback.
I have a nice collection of Tolkien in hardbacks.
I also buy a lot of paperbacks cheap.
But a good portion of my reading is done on kindle.

I prefer my books hardcover <3 I love the feel of it in my hands, and the smell of it when I bring it close at night.

But I also love the sound of the page turning that only softcovers have. It's music to my ears.

So either or is pretty much good for me xD
Though I tend to buy my books soft because it's cheaper >n<
