The 2023 Reading Challenge

If you have a reading goal for 2023, feel free to talk about it and keep track of it here!

The Goal:

The goal can be anything you want: Reading 1 book, 10 books, 25 books, 50 books, 100 books, reading a certain series, reading a certain number of pages, reading the same book 50 times, etc. Your goal is whatever you want and whatever is challenging yet still fun for you. It's a personal challenge, not a contest. So you set your goal and go at your own pace.

The Books:

You can count or not count any books you want. If you want to count audio books, then do it. If not, then don't. If you want to count manga, then do it. If not, then don't. If you want to count magazines, then do it. If not, then don't. If you want to count books for school, then do it. If not, then don't. It's all up to you!

The Rules:

1. Follow KofK's rules.

2. Don't make fun of anyone for having a different goal than you. We all have different obligations, and priorities, and free time, etc, so all of our reading goals are going to be different, and that's ok. One person might easily finish a 500 page book in a few days, while someone else might struggle to finish 500 pages in a few months, and that's ok. We're not racing, rushing, or competing. We're motivating, encouraging, and having fun.

3. If you want to talk about something that happened in a book, put it in a spoiler.

Who Can Join:
Anyone! Just jump in and say what your goal is!

Deadline for joining:
Feel free to join in any time before 2024!

I am aiming for 10 again this year too.

I always count a book for the year that I finish it, regardless of what year I started it! :mccute:

I think I'm going to repeat last year's challenge.
So I'm hoping to read a total of 35 books, of which I'll keep track in GoodReads as usual.

But also I want to read at least 2 books in each of the following categories:
- books in Galician language
- about feminism
- books related to science/maths
- any of the books that have been sitting on my to-read list for way too long.

One book can fit into two of those categories, for example I have this one book about feminist in Galician language, and there are some science essays that have been sitting on my to-read list for too long...
Anyway it leaves me plenty of room for fiction and whatever else I feel like reading in the spur of the moment.

Also adding to the conversation:
Yeah, I always count the book in the year I've finished it. Otherwise it would be too complicated.

And sometimes I go even further with non-fiction.
For example, I have this book about cuisine science which I've been "reading" all the year. I actually read it all months ago, but I've compelled myself to not consider it "finished" until I test all the facts I'm interested in.
It's on my nighttable, and sometimes I re-read one of the sections I've marked and make some considerations, and supposedly I'll check it in my own cooking - but I've always forgotten so far xD

I think I'll stick to 6 books again, but not going to make a list of books I want to read throughout the year because I really failed at that since I went off track so much. I haven't been really reading books the past few months. I don't count the manga I've been reading a lot of in those months.

I always count books for the year I finish than the year started.

Well, I've finished one book which I had started last year.
Now reading The Emperor of San Francisco by Max Thompson. Very amusing so far. Maybe because it's a sci-fi story told from the point of view of a cat. Quite unique.

I decided that 6 books will be my main goal, but my (goodreads) long goal is 10 books. I have decided to try and get at least 4 books in this year that isn't pure fantasy because that is all I read it feels like.

That being said I started We Have Always Been Here by Lena Nguyen, which is sci-fi and mystery according to my library app I used to borrow it from.

I will eventually get around to finishing Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan at some point this year.

I'll try to read some of my books bit by bit, not whole at once. Maybe that way I'll finish some eventually. I never read like this so it might be interesting to see how it goes.

Also, no fixed list this time. I'll go with my gut. Definitely want to read some fantasy, because I miss the heck out of it.
