I wrote my master thesis about Salvador Dalí, THE surrealist. And he had this special technique: He would sit on a chair in front of his canvas, holding a metal spoon in his hand and a metal plate on the floor. Once he fell asleep, he let go of the spoon that hit the plate and woke him up. The picture that was now in his mind would be part of his painting.

Well, I don't want to glorify drug usage, but I guess a few artists have taken drugs or at least tried them :mcheh:

My master thesis was about a movie that Dalí made together with Walt Disney :qh:

Picasso died at the age of 91. Not quite sure if Absynthe was involved, but if it was, it sure didn't make him die at a young age xD

The thing about Van Gogh is that it is said that he cut of his ear because he had depressions and back then that was not really treatable.
