How do I download and load a pattern onto photoshop to use it?
Is it like a brush?

Well, there's that, which I've never tried so I couldn't tell you how. The method I use is the one where I find a generic pattern picture on the internet, right-click-save onto my hardware, then open it on the photoshop, open the picture I want the pattern on, copy the pattern and paste it onto the picture, then mess with the shape / opacity / layer order / etc.
