I'm currently reading The Plains of Passage by Jean M. Auel. Amazing novel, very vivid. It's a series, though, so you have to start with the Clan of the Cave Bear. If you're determined enough to make it through the first hundred pages, it's a breeze. The Valley of Horses, book two, is my personal favorite so far. The series is about the Cro-Magnons and the Neanderthals, but mainly about a woman named Ayla.
