Desu is just a way of ending a sentence. Like Ka is used at the end of a question.
It`s ohk, I`m teaching myself and my friend who took Japanese is helping me when she can. I`m still having issues with making a sentence :qsweat:

Desu is not just the way of ending a sentence. This is a common mistake. ^^; It's actually the verb. It means is/am/are.

Kami wa chairo desu. My hair is brown.

Ka does end questions though. :3
