Honestly all I'm really looking for at this point is something I'm good at that makes me feel not utterly useless... if at some point I could have just a little bit of fun too, that would be great

That horrible question of "What do you want to do" only to find that there's just no place wanting to hire you for doing that

Or people going "that's not proper work, grow up, you need to do something serious with your life"

Or "You're unhappy doing what you're doing? Well you better suck it up, that's just the way things are, everyone has to suffer like that"
Like, do you even hear yourself? When did we start to pretend it's normal to have to live your only life in complete and utter misery, just because everyone has to do it? How fudged up are we as a society? xD

Ah well, I'll just keep looking for something in between, I guess. No luck so far though.

When you find out that guilds in the middle ages had better rules and laws for their people to assure a healthy work-home life balance.
They were strict with the amount of hours you were allowed to work. :}

And you actually got apprenticeships and stuff, really learned to do things in an artisan kind of way. You made yourself useful. But I'm afraid that would only go for the actual guilds, so workman upperclass. Not for the common laborers. They still worked their wonky behinds off or died trying. I think it was more a way to protect the artisan trade.

And honestly those rules and guidelines still apply in most Western countries, but they're just not suitable for everyone. But that's democracy for you

Common laborers... I'm trying to figure which jobs back then would be considered that. When even the boy sweeping the floors would be have to listed at the guilds as he would be privy to see guild information. :}

That boy would probably end up being an apprentice. To be fair my knowledge of the past is mostly about prehistoric times, but as far as I'm aware, being part of a guild was more of a privilege than anything else. I think there would've been quite some labor that didn't actually have a job description. If Medieval times were all that civilized, we probably wouldn't call them the Dark Ages

I find it pretty difficult to see people saying "Hate your job? Quit it!" ... not everyone has the luxury to switch and try out different things

I know right! If only it all were that simple
Also not everyone actually knows what they want hahaha

It really was that civilized in this area.
The term dark ages comes for the continuation of wars between regions/countries/religion factions, and the plethora of illnesses and plagues that thrived among the people. :}
