Yeah, I never know anything going on. I need to pay attention to the world but it depresses me a whole lot. And I really don't need that right now. Gotta get through the next couple of months.

Aw, Suugar, what's wrong with your mom? I'm sorry hun.

So is the EU lead by someone or does all the leaders of the individual countries do a vote? I really have no idea. I'm sorry.

I find it hard to believe they will be able to enforce a rule outside of the Europe tho o.o. Maybe that's why I haven't heard anything
or maybe im just a hermit lol

She has an Ovarian Cyst ( or I think that's what it is, we're not 100%, it also might be a Fibroid. what we have seen it's that its a huge mass on her ovary). a big one like 4in by 4in round. She woke up with pain and a huge fever we feared it might have burst. She was going to my home country in a week to get it removed.....bcs we trust our doctors better then American doctors (and bcs my grandma has been a nurse for over 50 year now there and knows all the doctors). But it might have gotten complicated.

We went to a gyno last week to have her give us a second opinion. But she was very rude and kept telling us to go to a specialist and that she couldn't tell us shit. We got into a huge argument bcs I got really mad at her lack of compassion over all incompetence.
She even told us "If you're not keel over in pain and bleeding out it's not an emergency". Like the hell???? A situation can be an emergency without that, like we are here to AVOID that situation and we want fast action.

thx light and yeah I agree with you I guess I'm worried about my own slice of life to get caught up in world news. It depresses me too.
I mean I know I need to know but I just don't need help feeling like shit XD
I do a good job at that on my own a lot of the times.

The EU has some "leaders", like the the President of the European Council, but their roles are more like preparing and chairing. Most stuff usually gets decided by votes by the members. But the "common person" doesn't really have any say in that. We just elect our government and then they pick someone for the EU, who, given how many countries are in the EU, doesn't have much to say anyways.

The sad thing is that, indeed, some smaller international websites began to block EU users entirely. Now we have like cencorship of the internet and our personal data is not really protected any better than before - there is just a lot more burocracy about it.
Though, I think, for European people to not being able to acess some websites, that obviously sell your data, is no big loss: https://techcrunch.com/2018/05/05/unrol ... ccounter=1)

All the big international sites, like Facebook, Google, Amazon, Twitter, Instagram, etc. have updated their privacy policy to follow the new laws though. They can't just ignore it. I think many small international sites, like private sites, will ignore it, but I don't think they will face much consequences. I know in germany, even small sites can't afford to ignore it, because there are law firms that have made a habbit of checking sites' policies and diclaimers and such and sue them if there are some errors in it, just for profit. So everyone here is rather scared, especially since all is so new and no one seems to know how all of it works for sure. Many of us feel like it's almost impossible to run a website now, unless you have your own personal lawyer specialized in these things.

I am sorry about the complications with your mother's situation. Will she need surgery? Or don't you know yet?

Oh! man that's dire. I'm sorry you and starkad have to go thru the hassle. It's like our leaders right now are throwing common sense out the window.
In America even worse bcs it's not just common sense but human decency. I miss Australia a lot these days. They're part of the European Union I think so I'm pretty sure they would be affected too but I meant more of the human decency. Health care is so much better there.
I never realized how bad it was in America until I had something to compare it too.

We don't know yet. She left like 4 hours ago and until now they're looking into her. I was just telling my brother how stupid that is, like for an emergency room that's pretty darn ridiculous.
It's why people sometimes order Ubers instead of ambulances....faster and cheaper.

Wow, 4 hours?! That seems like a long time to look into an emergency. :mcsad: I really hope she will be well.

I am not so sure our health system is that great... I have learned that from Americans, there seems to be some misconception as they seem to think we have free health care here, but it's just that we have a mandatory health insurance here and I have to pay around 400€ healt insurance each month and they still don't cover a lot of it, like for example detal care. They cover so little of it, that I had dentist bills over 1000€ before.
We also have a "two class"-health system where some people like me are in the government owned healt insurances and some are in private ones. And if you want to go to the doctor, the first thing they ask you is whether you are in the one from the government or in a private one. If you are in a private one, you will get an appointment the same week, if you are in the one from the government, you will have to wait several months sometimes. I once had incredible pain in my kidney area, went to the doctor and they asked me whether I had a private insurance. I said no and they told me to just go to the hospital instead because they had no time for me.
I know some European countries, like for example scandinavian countries, have a better health system, where the health care is covered by taxes, so it's the same for everyone. But here you basically have to pay for it yourself. And if you need some big surgery, have something like cancer or need other expensive treatment, it certainly is good to have the insurance. But for people like me, who very rarely go to see a doctor, I am ending up paying more than what I am getting.
Oh, and people who are for example unemployed and have no income get paid their health insurance paid by the government, so no one ends up not being able to go see a doctor, but for people who just have a low inclome, that's not really helpful.
Our health system is probably still better than in the US, but I think it's not that great. Also, it's a bit backwards - People with high income have a cut, where they just don't pay any more, while people with very low income have a minimum so they might end up having to pay 40% of their income for health insurance. And if you really earn that little, that might just leave you with not enough money to live from. I understand that some people think it is better to be unemployed and live from government benefits than to have a low-paying job. You just end up so much better when they pay your health insurance, your rent and you still get 350€ a month to spend just for food and other stuff for yourself. Many people with poorly paid jobs don't have that much after they paid for expenses like rent, health insurance, electricity and water bills, GEZ and so on...

Yeah that's America for you.
You and me both Firn.

Oh okay I see I understand that our European counterparts don't have it that great either. I just meant Australia in particular since I've lived there for a couple of years.
I wasn't even a citizen and I could get doctor appointments no problem. Test done with little to no cost and follow ups no problem. I wasn't even a citizen I was just on a Visa and i was treated like a human being. Here I had some routine tests done (just blood work to see how my sugar is since my family has a heavy precedent of diabetes) and the insurance is trying to charge me 1k!! like What in the literal fuck.
I was working as a social worker at the time as well and new mothers get treated so well! Everything is payed by the government for them specially if they're like single mothers. And they get the most maternity leave I've ever heard off it was really fantastic
.
A mother once told me she wanted to move to the states and I'm like....what ever for??? you don't know how good you have it here XD.
I told her if she wanted to switch citizenship with me lmao.

The way they handle education is fantastic too. You don't have to worry about drowning in student debt. Once you graduate they don't start charging you till you make a certain amount. And then they just take it off your paycheck.
I had a friend once tell me that when he went to school it was even free for your first bachelor like holy moly.

Obama Care is only for the reaaalllyyyyyy low income households. Can't get in unless you're basically starving. We don't get any benefits from them.

According to the government my dad makes "too much" for a lot of financial aid. I work but I don't make nearly enough bcs im studying as well and paying for all of it/ can't be full time bcs I study .

I think if you want to go to the general practitioner it is no problem. Mine does not even make any appointments at all - no matter what health insurance you are in, he does not even ask, you just go to the waiting room and wait till it is your turn (which can take several hours, but at least you get to see the doctor on the same day). But it's more difficult if you need a doctor specialized on something. From my experience eye doctors, dentists and gynecologist are the only ones where you can get an appointment within 1-2 weeks. Maybe it is because there are many of them around? But if you need something more specific, it takes longer. I had to go to the endocrinologist because of some disease I have and I already made the appointment last year and had to wait half a year.

It sounds really great that so much there is paid by the government! As said, here it's basically paid by ourselves and the health insurances don't pay all of it. My friend got a baby this year and when she was pregnant there were some tests she could have made to determine whether the child might have certain disabilities. There was one test the health insurance covered that could potentially damage the fetus. Then there was another one that was harmless, but she had to pay fot it herself... :qsl: Yeha, makes sense!

But I cannot complain about the German education system! During the time I went to university they experimented with some university fees (lucky me!), but they were nothing compared to what the fees are in other countries (I think it was 1000€ per year + around 350 administration fees, if I remember correctly) and since then they got rid of them. Now you only have to pay the administration fees, so basically going to university is free and I am really thankful for that. I had a hard time managing going to university and having a job at the same time to cover my living costs like rent, healh insurance and food and just the 100€ fee each months. I could not have done it at all if we had crazy fees like in America, since my parents were also poor and had no savings at all. Not everyone can go to university here, because we have this 3-rank school system and you need to achieve the highest "rank" in order to go to university, but it is dependant on your skills and hard work, and not on how much money your family has.
So I am really thankful for that. Education should be free everywhere. Why do some governments not see how important that is? You need smart people in your countries!

American health care sucks butt you guys. 4 hours isn't that long of a wait in an emergency room. I've had to wait like 10 before.

And it takes me at least 3 months to get an appointment with a gyno. My regular doc can usually get me in within a couple weeks but I've had to wait months for that too.

If you are married and you don't have kids you're legit fucked if you're poor. Like there are no welfare benefits that I qualify for. A government worker told me that I should have a kid so I could get food stamps (small stipend for food for poor people). I don't want a kid. I wouldn't be able to take care of it. I can't even take care of myself, much less a screaming baby.

That's so awful. There's so much data showing that the American way is just awful and ends up costing the government more money. Ugh.
