Hm, maybe you could use dead (as in fallen down) branches and decorate them with fake flowers made from fabric or folded paper or something like that?
Or have potted plants, so that they're actually alive and you don't have to kill them?

Sounds pretty! But indeed like a tricky material to work with. Funny that it managed to bruise you without really hurting you, though...

Maybe. We're going to be doing mini potted plants for the favours so that people can take them home. Only problem is that we'll want nice pots for the decoration which pushes the price up more. Trying to spend as little as possible XD

Yes, it must have just been the continual pressure pushing down that made the bruise. It's sore to touch but otherwise not really noticeable.

So, I'm thinking about learning how to make these wire wrapped trees with crystal pieces. I've wanted to try, but recently my boyfriend's sister started doing this and I really worry she will think I'm "copying" her, for lack of a better explanation. LoL! I know I shouldn't give a crap what other people think, but I do, soo ...

Have you ever had this problem? :mcheh:

Here's some examples of what I would like to learn how to make:

They look lovely! Don't worry about her, even if you were copying her, what does it matter really? So long as you're enjoying it.

I got back to sewing a couple of nights ago! I almost immediately hit a roadblock though as I can't decide how to fill the rest of the hoop I'm working on as a sampler. It's just so big. I should have been less ambitious.

I agree, they look super lovely! And yes, who cares if it's "copying" - I get why you feel weird about it, but if she ever talks to you about it, you could mention that you've been wanting to try it for ages and seeing her do it gave you the little push you needed to actually do (if that feels like it).

Yay for starting on the sewing again jacob! Didn't you make the sampler based on some techniques from a book? Or am I confusing that with the ribbon embroidery book you got at the same time? If there is a book, maybe looking through it again will give you some inspiration.

I haven't done much actual work on my shirt project yet, but I did look at the instructions to figure out what exactly I'll need (since I'm doing a combination of the two variants the pattern is officially for) and drafted a pattern piece for the bell sleeves I'm planning to add.

Yep, exactly - the problem is I got to the end of the book and nowhere near filled the sampler XD Filling the rest of it kind of feels pointless, it will just be filler. I guess I can look up some more patterns online but I really thought there would be more options in the book. Some of them are almost indistinguishable from each other, however - lots of diagonal lines where one line will be a single square shorter than the pattern before and so on. A bit disappointing, although there were still lots of good techniques covered. The other ones are for patterns which wouldn't look right on aida or evenweave fabric.

I did start another project however! I got inspired by another embroidery artist who I've been following for a while. I attempted to do something in her kind of way but in my own style. It's a good start though I wouldn't say it's the best thing ever made XD

That's a good start on the shirt at least!

Chrizine, I think it's a good idea to tell her she inspired me if she ever does ask. I haven't even started making them yet, just got the urge to learn about them awhile back, so I did some research online. Then suddenly she was making them and I was like ... oh ... crap. LoL. I guess it couldn't hurt to have two wire-tree makers in the family, right? Haha.

JG, Would love to see some pics of the embroidery!! :qh:

Hm, that's unfortunate, jacob. I guess you'll either have to find another source of patterns or just repeat some of them? But I guess that might be boring.
New project sounds fun! What is it going to be like? Who's that artist?

Nikki, it never hurts to have multiple people crafting in the family :) Maybe it will even be fun to chat about it and trade tips and ideas!

I started cutting some of the fabric yesterday, the basic body pieces and the sleeves. I want to sew all this together (hopefully at least parts of it today) and then start on the ruffles for the neckline.

Thanks :)
It's looking promising - I assembled the sleeves and I do like how they look. Next I need to close the side seams of the bodice and attach the sleeves.
But first I should go and wash my hair so it gets some time to dry before bedtime.
