I hate books that weren't worth it!

So I thought that Shape of Water was due Saturday. I was wrong. It was due Friday. So I got a late fee. But then I was able to renew it. So whoever had it on hold must have canceled their hold or the library must have given them a different copy. So I got to renew mine. I'm done with it anyway, but that saved me from having to go to the library yesterday and also from getting more late fees. I am going to the library book sale today anyway, so I will probably return it then.

Today one of the students I am teaching English to asked me for a recommendation for a book. My mind went absolutely blank and I could not think of a single book :mcshock: :mcomg:

Oh shoot, that is because there are too many good books! I've read so many books in my life, but I could not think of one in particular I would recommend. It is also hard to tell because one also has to consider the taste of the other person...

Exactly. And it would need to be politically correct/not rated about like a 16 because otherwise I shouldn't recommend it to students. And you can't just say something obvious like Harry Potter because everyone knows that already xD

Yes, I agree! HP would be the first series I would think of, but I wouldn't name it xD

I really want to start reading a Swedish book I got, but I already started two books in English, I want to finish at least one of them before doing that, but there is still like 300 pages left :qsweat:

I got charged 20 cents for the late book. I also bought $20 worth of books from the book sale. https://i.imgur.com/lImsA2E.png

If a younger person asked me for a book recommendation, depending on their reading level, I would recommend things like Howl's Moving Castle, Pride and Prejudice, Rebecca, The Phantom Tollbooth, A Little Princess, Anne of Green Gables, The Mysterious Howling (The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place #1), Fabelhaven, anything by Roald Dahl, and The Last Apprentice series.

Holy wow that's a lot of books! :mclove:

In the end I told them Charles Dickens books. I don't know why that was what came to mind at all :mcheh: but I recommended that it's a good way to learn about Victorian culture and the foundation of modern London.
Actually, side note, what's interesting about Dickens for me is some of the places he writes about. In Oliver Twist, there's a pub which is mentioned which was my local while I was at uni :D It still exists with the same original building from back then. It's a very little, out of the way place, so not many people know about it.

These books sounds great, now that you mentioned them I would recommend something like that as well :)

Oooh I know how you feel, jacob! I felt the same with all the writers in Dublin... It was so interesting to be somewhere a person was writing about decades ago..

That is neat! I get excited if an author even mentions a town that's within like an hours drive of me lol!
