Well, it does seem like when people end up in a demanding field they love, it takes all their time and the old pastimes are lost.
Not that I'm bitter or anything (cousin Shawnti!).... lol, no, nevermind. She's still in the first couple years so she'll figure it out and start coming to family events again soon, probably. It wouldn't be so bad that she missed them if she didn't spend so much time complaining about missing them.

And you seem to be far more self-aware than my cousin so I'm sure you'll be able to prioritize however you want.

I didn't read a lot in uni either actually. My course didn't call for it :3 I mean, I still read for fun though of course.

52 sounded like loads but I'm almost done and the year is ages away from being done. It goes by a lot quicker than I thought it would. I probably read something like 30 or more in normal years without even trying.

I read a lot in high school, then very little in college, very little for a year or two after college, then I got back into it again!

@Akili: that just means they’re happier exercising that than the old pastimes. which matters, I believe.

maybe she complains because she thinks it’s expected. sometimes we say we’re unhappy about something to prevent others from doing it. like if I break a plate and call myself an idiot, no one else will call me an idiot because I’ve technically already berated myself.

I’m sure she’ll figure it out though. it takes time to prioritize and re-prioritize if necessary XD

Hm, maybe that's it. I can check with her later. It's not like we don't have plenty of other relatives who don't come, so if she wants to miss it for a while it's not a problem. It's a thought!

Sanssouci, did you find that what you were reading changed patterns too, or mostly just the frequency?

In high school, I liked adult fantasy. When I started reading again a bit after college, I found that I didn't want a challenge. I wanted stuff that was fast and easy, so I was reading a lot of YA. Now I read a mix of YA, fantasy, manga, classics, and historical fiction.

So that changes, too.

I wish that I had kept my library check-out receipts so I had a record of everything I read, but that ship sailed long ago.

Yes, that would be neat! For the past 5 years or so, I have been posting every book that I read on pinterest. Then sometimes I go and look back on them all!

At this point I would settle for a record of every book I own (it would be smart just for insurance purposes or in case of a fire or something, anyhow).

Do you like pinterest? Was it hard to learn to use the site?
