I proposed to my husband.
No big deal really.
I think that after a few years you become a "married couple" even if you are not actually married xD

Husband proposed to me at the 2 years mark (during which we pretty much always lived together) and even before that we had a lot of people who know us both believing we had been married for years when we weren't.
And now people who know only one of us (usually me) don't believe me when I tell them I'm married.

Still, we mostly got married because it makes things easier in terms of taxes or if something happens to either of us.

Haha, yeah, I actually call him either husband or un-husband and myself his wife or un-wife. 'Cause we're practically married. Over 11 years is about one third of our lives.
I remember we were once playing card-board game with his friends, and in this game there are cards for husband and wife. And Ash said he's missing a wife and I joked like "what do you mean, I'm right here". Then one of his friends (then newly married) went "you're not his wife". I said "dude, we're together for 11 years, been living together for 8, you're how long with your wifey? 5 years or something? We live like husband and wife and a paper is just a paper". Then he went on about taxes and hospitals, assets and such. Fine, taxes, fuck taxes. But hospitals, assets etc. can be managed witha notary, at least here. The law allows it.
Anyways, he upset me with that ('cause he just wouldn't let go and kept arguing with me) and I obviously still hold a grudge

In our case we first signed up as common-law partners. Here it is a procedure to document that you are living with a partner but you are not married.
You have some rights (such as being informed in a hospital) but you are not economically tied (therefore taxes remain the same as when you were single).

I was the one who proposed.

Actual proposal happened at our workplace, and was something like this:

HE: I've been reading the announcement regarding the jury (of a teachers examination).
ME: Any way you can make sure you are not summoned?
HE: No, only getting married.
ME: Then we get married.
HE: I suppose.

I guess it turned out to be a bad decision, because nowadays we don't have contact with one another at all haha. I would say maybe it would have been better if we only saw each other at Christmas and on birthdays instead of spending so much time together, but tbh, she wasn't the kind of person that would allow this - she always wanted to be center of attention.

My hubby proposed after 6 years. To be honest I think he only got around to it finally because we went on holiday to Paris (at his suggestion), and he didn't propose while we were there and I got really upset, and he realised he needed to do it soon or he'd be in trouble XD
