Mood: Hey doc, I'm not feeling well. I've had the tits all day.
Pfff, if magpies were copyrighted, I'd have constant lawsuits up my ass I guess :p
Using that as a reference could never get you into trouble simply because it's a true image of a magpie, not a character <3

With magpies I prefer people using references because in the end, even though people think "I see them daily!" when it comes to it, no one remembers what they really look like.
Someone once asked me to draw a rooster from scratch. I thought "That's easy!" but in the end I didn't know where exactly to put all the red flaps on its head and stuff... not that easy. :p
So yeah, I mostly use references.

Ok, understood! Because I was used to always see the pierrot made like THIS I thought it was a character, and not a job. Thank you for the explanation :qcute:

Silver: Not in all countries though. The copyright laws are handled differently in different countries, and copyright claims can also be extended. So I would be cautions with that 70 years rule as it does not always apply.

Copyright subsists for a variety of lengths in different jurisdictions. The length of the term can depend on several factors, including the type of work (e.g. musical composition, novel), whether the work has been published, and whether the work was created by an individual or a corporation. In most of the world, the default length of copyright is the life of the author plus either 50 or 70 years. In the United States, the term for most existing works is a fixed number of years after the date of creation or publication. Under most countries' laws (for example, the United States and the United Kingdom), copyrights expire at the end of the calendar year in question.

The length and requirements for copyright duration are subject to change by legislation, and since the early 20th century there have been a number of adjustments made in various countries, which can make determining the duration of a given copyright somewhat difficult.

All of this reminds me of a question I have about wild knuffel designs. Normally I wouldn't bother asking, but I've gotten a LOT of questions about it so i feel kind of obligated at this point. I feel like the answer will be no, but I'd rather it be really clear, lol.

Are we allowed to make wild knuffel based on OC designs from people other than ourselves IF the person who made the character's design are ok with it (or in my case, insistent on it). Like they have their character, but we make up all the stages up to the final.

Like I said, I figure it's a no since it's not our own design all the way through. But since they're not copyrighted designs and the owners are asking for it I figure I'd ask.

Anyone got an answer? lol

Well it is for the European rules, I don't know for American. (Edit; oh you already found it. -reads-) But that is something I wonder for a while already Firn, what rules do you have to follow with a site like this? Wherever your sever is located? Or is it about the visitor? I really have no clue.

Raine:
If you have permission to do that then you I don't have a problem with this at all. The copyright rule is not there so I can annoy people with it, but because I am afraid of legal actions against KOfK if part of this site (which Wild Knuffel are) uses copyrighted material.
Though of course, there is always the problem that, in case it comes down to trouble, you should have some written agreement like a mail conversation where you are given permission.

Silver:
I have no clue, honestly. I am not an expert in law, so I would prefer to make things in a way that don't break rules in any country at all.
Though of course there are some things I would apply first according to German law, because that's the thing I am familiar with, like we don't have PG13 restrictions for websites for example, etc.
I would also for example never allow anyone to display a Swastika on KOfK, even though it might not be a problem in other countries.

Alright, I will be sure to have written permission if I ever make one for someone. I'm sure a lot of people are going to be really happy to hear that. XD
Thanks for the answer <3

@firn; Phew yeah I can understand that. I wouldn't want the Swastika either on any site due to the story behind it (not the actual meaning and origin). It's just... meh...

Sounds complicated though. But as long as you think of the American and European you'll probably be fine.

Silverbleed wrote:ml1201, your story is quite interesting. It might explain a bit in my situation. I don't have extremely bright eyes, but what you're telling is pretty much familiar. I also have no problem moving in a dark room. I remember walking in the forest and all my classmates tripped over everything haha. Also I cannot watch tv in a dark room, it hurts as much as walking from a dark room building, outside. We all know how that feels. It buuurns xD But I have that in the evening very quickly.
I also lower the brightness of my computer almost halfway while others have it full out.

My eye changes color depending on the kind of light too! I have 3 colors in them due to partial heterochromia.
But in photo's they're always blue for some reason. The heterochromia is completely gone in photo's, and I got no clue how that works. This is the most recent photo; [x] (it's a cutout of a selfportrait I made recently)

My face is towards the shadows though, so it looks darker than reality. In the full photo you can see the light comes from the back of my head.

Interesting, your eye color changing might have to do with the intensity of the light, or the frequency of the light since it will absorb certain colors and reflect others. The frequency of the light may contain certain color wavelengths that reflect differently depending on the the colors present. So when it shows mostly green, there could be more green wavelengths, and the same for blue. Also, is the third color possibly brown? With the image you showed it looks like there are either flicks of brown or a darker green in your eyes, but since its a self portrait its hard to tell. :/

In my case my eye color changes depending on what I am wearing the most of. For example, if I am wearing a blue shirt my eyes appear blue, when I am not my eyes appear green, which having green colored frames for my glasses can do that. XD But when I'm not wearing any particular color (like white and black) my eyes are a steel blue color, which surprises a lot. :qhehe: They normally don't believe me until I take off my glasses.

Its like with my hair too. My hair is dark brown (looks almost black when its wet, lol) and I have strawberry blonde highlights, but you can only see the red-ish color in sunlight or very good lighting. When I was in middle school no one believed me and a girl whose mom works as a hair stylest (and taught the girl different things about her job) checked it in the sun light since it was the best source of light, and was shocked. She admitted I did have strawberry blonde highlights, just really hard to see because of how dark my hair is. But most of the time it looks like I have blonde highlights. Also, sorry for any horrible spelling mistakes I make, I'm not very good at spell and the version of FireFox I have is being stupid with the spell check, all it does is tell me the word is spelled incorrectly. :mccry:

It's odd, because irl it's really easy to see the brown spots. I indeed have brown and a tiny bit of green in my eyes. You can barely see them in that picture. I have that often with photo's.

My hair also looks light blonde when it's wet, while it's white, really. Almost. And it appears only whiter when I got a tiny tan. Which is only good because I'm extremely pale. Especially in winter I hear constantly 'are you sick?'. It's depressing almost. Like someone telling you you look sad, it makes you sad xD
I mean, look, this is the picture I took that closeup from. My hair is white, so imagine how pale I am. But even if I try to tan it's gone within 2 days. [x] (it's my Facebook pic lolz).

Sounds cool though, those highlights. I wonder if you could catch it on camera? I'd love to see.

Don't worry about the spelling xD It's an international site and I'm also a 'foreigner' in that case. I'm Dutch myself, how about you?
