Lucian fidgeted nervously as he stood in the corner of the ball room. Violet had abandoned him in favor of more talkative company and food. So here he was, hiding in the shadows of the posts and hoping that no one would notice him. He felt very much exposed in the clothing that he was wearing. He had asked Violet to let him change out of his outfit but she rebuked him by saying that she had already spend money to 'doll' him up.

It was a typical Violet response that Lucian didn't bother to pursue the topic. The other hunter could be as stubborn as a mule when she set her mind on something. The lack of a hood to hide his features was making him paranoid. So he kept his head down and gradually edged away from the crowd of people and slipping onto the terrace just beyond the half-open double door.

Sighing in relief as the cold air of the night hit his face, the angel made him way into the large garden and sat down on a stone bench. It was conveniently placed out of view of the ball behind a rose bush.

Titling his head up, Lucian started at the full moon hanging in the sky. It was a sight that he would never have seen in Heaven and he had seen when he lived with Vane. Living on Earth, he had learned to appreciate the changing of the sun and the moon. The transition of orange, purple, and red was a beautiful sight he could not find anywhere else.

Now that he was alone with his thought, the topic of Vane came to the forefront of his mind. With the excitement of the day, he had pushed the demon's actions into the back of his mind. But now it all came back with a vengeance. His cheek colored at the recollection. The question 'why' was prominent in his thoughts. Why did Vane do what he did?

Why? Why? Why?

So many questions he could provide no answer for. Did he hate being touched that way? If he was truthful to himself then the answer was no. He had enjoyed the demon's touches.

But it wasn't right.

Lucian smiled ruefully. Did right and wrong even mean anything to him now? He was sure that he had broken all the rules of Heaven. His actions were already irredeemable. Did he even cared about sin and what not anymore? His feelings for Vane could not be defined by mere words. Yet, should he allow it to continue?

This path he walked...to what end?
