Falling back on the translation thing, I always have a hard time with cultural references.
You can't explain them in a translation but putting a similar reference from the target language's country kinda feels like a betrayal.

And you've got me looking up Piers Anthony.
He hasn't been translated in French much apparently, last translated book was in 2010 and it's the 9th of the series, out of 47.

Apparently he lives in Florida so maybe that explains things?

I freaking love puns but they're an absolute nightmare to translate. You often need to make up anything else to keep the joke, but the original pun vanishes anyway, because it wouldn't make sense unless you just explain it.
I can see his Xanth series has been translated into Polish in the majority.

Well, I did read quite a lot of fantasy back when I had access to a library in French so I was wondering if I had read him before and if so what was the quality of the translation.
Apparently I never read him though.
