Jesus, I'm not on forums for 2 days and everybody gets confused about a term I used XD
Of course Chriz is right, bio means organic. Don't they ever mark organic food with "bio" in your guys's countries? :o

Organic food can be expensive, but it's been sucha hype lately that many everyday products like milk are pretty cheap. But of course, in the supermarket where I shop there is a whole "bio/organic food alley" and these prices can get pretty damn high. So it depends what you buy that they marked as organic.
I just figured that if I can't restrain myself from abusing cows for their milk then maybe I can at least buy milk only from the cows that are being treated right. We do the same with eggs, we just hope those hens were treated as they deserve :mcheh:

Low fat/skim milk tastes like water. Even the 1,5%/2% one. BF tried it once when my grandma was buying them and he said "that's not milk, that's a joke" XD I've never been a big milk drinker, but I could tell the difference. There's also a difference when you drink the usual full fat milk and the bio/organic milk. Since that I only drink cocoa on that bio milk, no water added, like my old habits. And that's huge because I used to hate milk completely XD

How do you guys make your cocoa? I once didn't read the instructions and just poured hot milk on cocoa powder and sugar and it was all lumpy and I got really mad, then I read that you're supposed to fix cocoa and sugar with water first (about a tablespoon or two), then add hot milk.

I usually mix the powder into a small amount of hot milk first, it dissolves better than if you add the milk all at once. Kind of form more like a paste at first?
And then you can add either hot or cold milk, whatever you want. Especially for cold cocoa I do it this way, for hot I sometimes also just add it all at once since it dissolves okay. But for cold this step is essential!

Kit: There's cocoa powders that have no sugar added yet, where you can sweeten it yourself according to your taste. I'm assuming mem is talking about those. They're often sold as a baking supply here, since baking recipes sometimes ask for unsweetened cocoa powder.
That can be really tasty! My grandma always had this kind.
I usually have a specific cocoa powder that is already sweetened which I just really like, but I also really like the sweeten it yourself kind.

Exactly, I use the unsweetened cocoa powder cause as I previously mentioned, the premade mixes are too sweet for me.
The instructions on the box specifically say to mix with a bit of water first, to make the powder dissolve. I was surprised but it works better than just straight adding milk so I'm not experimenting anymore XD

I'm seriously shocked you don't know that bio is just another word for organic. We don't use that word much in Poland. Maybe the alleys in supermarkets have it in the name, but the products usually have bio written somewhere on the packaging anyway.

mem: I don't think I've read instructions for hot cocoa like that before
I feel like I've seen the word bio here and there... but mostly it's just "organic"

Same method as Kit lol

It's the only instructions I've actually read on unsweetened cocoa powder, so idk XD In the premade mix it doesn't really matter I guess. They usually say you can add water or milk or both if you like. But since I use the unsweetened powder, then I have to prepare it for the milk incoming XD

I was curious if anyone besides me uses the unsweetened cocoa powder :mcheh:

Well, the more you know :mclaugh: I seriously would have never guessed that in other countries they use another term more frequently. It's so rarely used in Poland I actually used to have trouble understandign the term "organic" until I realized it's the same thing. But then I guess I forgot and didn't use it ad confused the ef out of people :mcheh:

Mem - it's not essential that that first bit is water, my method with the little bit of milk also comes from the instructions of the unsweetened cocoa powder my grandma always had.
And I find it does actually also help with the premade mixes! The important part is just that you add a small enough amount of liquid at first, to get the pastey consistency.

Then I guess it depends on the brand. Mine says it's supposed to be water, but my granny just bought a different brand and that says you can prepare it with either a bit of water or milk.

I would guess that it's perfectly fine to do yours with milk as well, and it just depends on the brand what they write ;)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. But I'm way too OCD to try it with milk XD
