I guess it all depends on where in the world the cruise is and where you stop and all. I think I've heard somewhere before that they stop serving drinks when you get closer to shore.

That could very well be the case. Either way though, it wouldn't affect me. :P

Though I wouldn't say no to a cocktail once or twice during the cruise, but man that sh**'s expensive!

If you ask me cocktails prices are pretty outrageous wherever you go.
It's hard to wrap my head around the fact they ask the price of a whole meal for a single glass sometimes.

Fair enough, they really are. I'm glad I'm not much of a drinker, because you'd spend a pretty penny at a bar every night. And because I only like the fruity shit full of sugar, lol.

Yes, months when I have to replenish an alcohol for cooking or baking are higher than average grocery budget months...
Doesn't happen often though.
Mostly dark rum for soaking nuts in for carrot cakes for birthdays or the like; or sake for sauteeing chard, or similar.
It's fortunately much less expensive than social drinking!

And for fancypants drinks to serve guests, ridiculous icecubes (I usually keep a tray in my freezer with a couple of lengths of candied lemon peel and one or two fresh cranberries in each icecube, or somthing similar) are much cheaper and easier and impress people to a silly extent considering how straightforward they are to make.
And if it's too cold out for fancypants icecubes, then you can bust out the fancy tea sets and the tray of dried herbs in pretty jars with a set of empty tea bags, and once again, despite making the guests do all the work of putting together their own herbal tisanes, people are weirdly impressed and don't seem to even notice you didn't offer them alcohol -they get diverted remarkably quickly when you ask them if they prefer dried rosebuds or cardamon pods.

It's amazing how many events you can be the hostess for, before anyone even notices to comment that "no one seems to get drunk at your parties" and then you watch their eyebrows climb when you confide that it's because you don't serve alcoholic drinks... they truly never seem to realize... people are so strange...

You know, I once went to a super fancy restaurant that offered herbal tea after dessert.
They came with a tray full of living plants and made the tea with fresh herbs right in front of you. So you're on to something.

Still one of my best memory of my once a year super fancy restaurant visit.

It's one of the reason why I really like Japanese drinking culture, you usually drink in restaurants rather than in bar so at least your belly is full and you can do something fun even if you don't drink.
Also, all-you-can drink menus are a thing. Dreadful thing but a thing anyway.

Oooh, small pots of the herbs themselves? That's brilliant! About the only way to keep the mints under control, too...
hmmm

Right, let me just check how many small pots there are out in the garage. I bet I could do something with that!

@Akili Li, Now I just wanna go to one of your parties, lmao. I'd still end up asking you for a recommendation for tea though, as while I enjoy it I've never made my own mix!
And we make fruity ice cubes for homemade iced tea, though I love your idea of fancy shmancy ones to distract!

@Kuuki, Ah yes, all-you-can drink alcohol. Utterly dreadful. And I always bought bar-food on the rare occasions where I went drinking with colleagues, so I made do even without a proper restaurant! xD
