Yeah standardized testing can stuck it. It's not an accurate assessment of most people's learning.

uh. well I get upset stomachs easily too, but McDs has never done anything to me. I think Germany's food regulations are a lot stricter.
actually standardized tests are a very accurate assessment of people's learning, because they're the same for everyone. They suck and they're hard but they really are accurate, because there will be no "I can give this a point" from one teacher and "no points for this crap" from another.
Written texts (or essays or whatever) are inaccurate, because your teacher's personal opinion of you and your writing style will always play a role in your grade. That can't happen with standardized tests. There is no way to more accurately and fairly gauge how good you are all over the country.

Standardized tests, are not a good gauge of learning because not everyone learns the same. Testing people on the same knowledge is one thing, testing people in the same way is not. Not everyone memorizes well, not everyone can explain their thoughts well. True, there isn't really a better way, but it's not a great way either. IMO.
