It's mostly a Clamp thing, isn't it? They like to connect their stories  Like how Holic is also connected to Rayearth which is mentioned in Angelic Layer which is followed by Chobits.

I think most CLAMP things are connected.
but for other animes.. I don't think as connected as CLAMP things.
like gundam, a lot of the gundam anime series are not connected at all. Just brand new world, new series, new characters.
