Matcha green tea is the best. And you really can't go wrong with English breakfast! Although when it comes to things with milk, I'm definitely a coffee drinker :mcheh: .

I only had to pull two, but it was hell recovering from it. I can't imagine having 4 taken out. Did you get it all done at once?

Ew, I hate pushy companies. Especially when they're calling about something as important as insurance. Heh, I'm a bit babied when it comes to car stuff - my parents organise it all but I pay for it (and sign the forms). Prooooobably not a good idea as I really should know how to do this stuff on my own. (Maybe I'll be asking for your assistance at some point). Google autofill can be quite the ninja! Sometimes when I fill out my surname first, it puts all of my father's details down >>; There have been some awkward moments where I've almost accidentally signed my dad up for random subscriptions.

You were cast in a show?! Which one? You talented little bubble. :mcwink: Haha well I'm glad you really appreciate your parents, I definitely didn't until I actually moved out. I had no idea Coogee was that cheap. Always thought it would be pricier as it was close to the beach etc. I lived in Stanmore for a while, paying $165 a week for a gross one bedroom apartment (shared with my partner), so it was actually $330 a week. Our roof broke during the rainy winter season and they never fixed it... thankfully, our bond was returned as we did mention it to our landlord around 50 times.

Haha you can live under my bed in any way you like. Just no biting. And no snoring. Or you'll get a severe poke in the ribs.

More TLDR: It can be used for when cancer returns, but can also be used for people who've gotten cancer for the first time. As far as the scientific world knows, all cancer cells have screwed up DNA that gets ignored. If we can switch on the mechanism that detects damaged DNA in these cancer cells, perhaps we can stop them from dividing and eventually kill them. As these mechanisms are already turned on in normal cells, we won't be hurting the normal cells at all with this treatment strategy. :qcute: However, we're a long way from that at the moment. We still don't know what all these mechanisms are! That's where we come in.

Haha I don't work there, but I do collaborate with a biophysicist that works there! I make her cells to look at under super microscopes. It's pretty cool stuff!

You're studying mechanical engineering?! THAT IS SO COOL. Have you built stuff yet? Can you build me a robot? :mclove: :mclove: :mclove:

Is it just me or are these turning into essays... I have a feeling if we ever meet in real life we'd be talking over each other constantly hehehe.

I used to be an avid coffee drinker until I started to notice I was getting heart palpitations especially after consuming coffee. I'm definitely more of a tea drinker anyway c: I never could handle anything but a mocha and even then I take it with 2 sugars at the least.

Yup, I got it done all at once. :qhehe: My face was so swollen I looked like a chipmunk and it was hell. I hate not being able to close my mouth or eat.

I thought they would give up upon not receiving any answers on the first day but they kept calling me the day after so I blocked their number ;-; I found car insurance the most daunting. I had to look up so many things and ask my parents for the car's papers and even then, not all specifications are listed. They ask for things like, "are you rims steel or steel alloy," and, "does your car have an alarm, alarm & immobiliser, neither." I don't even drive. At least, not yet. I've always wanted a motorbike but my parents are convinced I will die instantaneously.

I've been getting weird promotions via text message lately. I'm not sure what's happening. Stuff like, "buy X amount of rayban sunglasses for X dollars." I think I may have done something wrong on the internet.

It wasn't a big show. Just a uni show. They have a lot of artsie, comedy productions at UNSW and we had to move close by for our own sakes. We had to wake up at 8am every day for promotions ;-; I had a break down during practice because I was so stressed about uni and exhausted.

Coogee isn't cheap at all. They share 4 to a 3 room apartment. The place is kind of small as well but they turned the garage into a work shop. None of them actually spend a lot of time at all home so they don't mind a smaller place.

Oh well, I'll bite -chomp chomp- :B I don't snore though.

We built a little vehicle in first year which was OK. I got to do the electrical and coding parts as opposed to the mechanical work of the vehicle which was interesting. Someone messed about with my wires and fried my transistor which was cute. I also broke lots of LEDs. I can't build you a robot unfortunately :c That'd be more mechatronics, especially if you want it to have an intelligible code and work. We haven't gotten into much building ourselves yet. It's a lot of designing, working with materials and we get to occasional pick up a saw and cut some metal. I'm only half way into my degree currently and I have considered join the satellite building society *A* I'm just uber freaked out by the presence of my ex bf >> Curse him!

Probably. I can get overly chatty.

Aha, yes! I use it whenever I need the emoticon. Because the queen emoticons don't have that expression.
I'm surprised I finished with so much time to spare. I don't often bother with participating in these events.
I guess Sakura the Cat really came through.

I only just recently got used to the taste of black tea. Still not quite a fan of it. And since I don't drink it as often, I'm sure I'll lose my taste for it soon. I like green tea and white tea the best.

I had mine taken out when I got my braces. They weren't even causing problems. They just decided rather than have them cause problems down the road and have them cause damage to the braces, take them out first and put in braces after. And now I'm no longer wise. lol and then I got one side of my mouth infected. I looked like a squirrel who was storing nuts only on one side of her mouth. People were staring at me all weird.

Man, those auto fills come in super handy. But I think mine is with Chrome? Because that doesn't happen in FireFox. Or maybe I just didn't set it up on my FireFox.

That sounds like fun! You playing music? I remember trying to jam on Skype all those years back. You had to follow my speed despite being the guitar player because I didn't know all the songs by heart and had to turn on the lyric video and sing while you tried to keep up. :qlol:

Wow, so weird. Here, living on campus is a lot cheaper, unless you pitch tent in a house and house 5 people living in a 2 bedroom apartment. But you can get stuck with stupid roommates, yes. My last roommate took to howling and meowing at 2 AM. I wouldn't mind it if I weren't trying to sleep.

One of my favourite professors back in university had this one lecture when the PA/recording system wasn't working in the beginning. In the middle of the lecture it cut in and he just stopped as his voice was suddenly amplified and then said, "... and THAT, my friends, is the meaning of life. BOY! Those guys who decided to skip today to listen to the recordings later? They REALLY missed out, didn't they! That's why you should always attend lectures! Even if they're being recorded!"

Wow, Mrow. You're working on such a cool thing! I'm impressed. I had a Engineer friend who was working on a safer alternative to X-ray. Last I heard, he could see through milk but not chicken, but that was years ago.

If I drink coffee, no one would be happy. I have sugary, milky coffee drinks if I know I won't be around anyone else.

That's why you should never date in class or at work. One of my students is dating a coworker and now she can't break up with him because she'd still see him everyday at work. And at home since they live together. And since they're both immigrants, they can't change their workplace as easily, either.

I think it's great you're not addicted to coffee. I'm quite dependent on it - I've been known to be snappy and moody without my morning dose. Haha a mocha with two sugars; you must be the sweetest thing around :mcsquee:

D: That sounds awful. Did you drool blood when you slept? I did when I had mine taken out. It was quite a shock waking up to a pink pillow that was originally white.

Ohhh I agree with your parents on the motorbike issue. At least in a car there's metal around you whereas on a motorbike... you're around the metal. So in the event of a crash... well you know. :mcomg:

Ooh I love uni shows. I think uni students are a hell of a lot more talented than they are given credit. At USYD, we have a really strong theatre culture. I used to religiously attend theatresports - I think UNSW has theatresports as well? I'm sorry to hear you had breakdowns :C Your degree sounds super intense. How are you finding it at the moment?

They'll be those gentle bites that you get from playing with a cat or a dog right? :mcheh:

Ahh. That sucks about the ex bf. Are you sort of friends/acquaintances, or was it a terrible break up and you can't even look at him? You seem like a nice person, I'm sure if he's also reasonably nice you two can be in the society together :mctongue: Does the society actually build satellites? Do they get them out to space? If so, how do they do that?! :mcglee:

Aww shucks Ziaheart (Zia?). That's a really good idea - X-rays are still super dangerous to those who operate the machines. Haha I guess it's a start that he can see through milk! Hopefully his research has led to something. :mccute:

Haha. I'm dating someone who works across the hall from me at the moment :mcheh: . Before I got hired, my current boss asked me that if we did break up, would we be able to remain professional. I said I would. But who knows. I hope we don't break up :mcheh: .

@Zia: I can only drink green tea if it's a cold beverage. I do prefer the aroma of green tea over black tea.

How'd you get it infected? :o Luckily, my wisdom teeth removal was conducted during the mid semester break so I had a little over a week to reduce the swelling. It still hurt when I physically exerted myself though, which I thought was really odd.

I'm not aware if FF has the autofill. I stopped using FF ages ago c: Chrome FTW.

The singing over tinychat was hard because there was always delay. That was so long ago, I totally forgot. I think every one was like, "you sound less cute than I thought you would." ;u; hue

I don't play music. I had a lot of the dance roles and a singing one. I had a go at acting. I'm so bad ;-; We had to learn to project because we didn't get mics and I just can't do it very well.
Ziaheart wrote:My last roommate took to howling and meowing at 2 AM.

He/she just wanted to practice their feline skills. Hah.

Now I feel guilty for attending less than 25% of lectures in person this semester >> I also fall asleep in most of my lectures. I tried so hard last semester but I was caught taking a nap twice in the same class. So awkward. They're just so slow and boring.

B-b-b-but it wasn't class Zia. We met whilst playing Quidditch 'orz

@Mrow:
I am made of sugar. Sugar is life D: I reverse into a 2 year old and turn into a confused puddle of goop without snacks in between meals.

Luckily I didn't get too much blood on my sheets. Only a bit on my blankets. I drooled blood all over the nurse's hair net though in the hospital >>
She got really angry and told me to close my mouth and swallow but I couldn't feel anything. HOW DO I SWALLOW? :mcshout:

The anaesthetist who put the cannula into my arm did a really bad job imo. It was so uncomfortable and the nurses kept forcing me to straighten my arm to get the IV in there but I couldn't do it. They had to knock me out with gas as well. Yay. Best patient.

In the event of a crash I will become real goop.

Have you been a cast of a show as well?? O: I know of USYD Science revue and you have madsoc the dance society.

Yes, we do. There are a bunch of revues and also NUTS. I like it because it's a bunch of silly, different people getting together to put on a show. The commitment was worth it *A* Wouldn't do it again though. At the time I was still studying Psychology. I remember wanting to go home and sleep in my bed and not have to worry about dancing ;-; Pressure on me was so real.
As irritating as the mech eng faculty can be, I'm enjoying this area of study a lot more! One of my best decisions was to switch before final year of psych.

-monster chomp-

Ex bf and I are really complicated. It was a terrible break up and his doing. He's apologised for it but I won't be able to forgive him or trust him again. He's eager to be my friend but I'm keeping him as more of an acquaintance. We accidentally ran into each other in November and all the drama started again. He had, and still has the same gf, but it got to a point where his friends were telling him to leave his current gf to get back with me.
What ticks me off the most is that he keeps telling me new gf is really similar to me >> Can't find nobody like me sonny.
I think his problem was he felt so guilty over the break up that he kept seeing me in his current gf but finally reconciling with me has allowed him to move on.

Yes, they have actually build a low earth orbit satellite. The society is called BLUEsat. They're currently building a rover *A*

Did you start dating before your job? o: I wouldn't be able to function if my partner was across the hall from me or on the same floor. I'd constantly pester him out of habit.

Wait. If you're made of sugar, then wouldn't you dissolve in the rain :mcomg: ? ...I sure am glad you had an umbrella during that recent storm. Even if it did break eventually.

Urgh hospital nurses can be so snarky. I get that they're understaffed/underpaid/there's a lot of bullying in the industry... but a bitchy nurse reeeaaally doesn't help when you're delirious from invasive surgery. Incompetent anaesthetist should get fired :mcgloom: . I wish I was there to comfort you when you had to get your teeth pulled. Sounds like you had a terrible experience :mccry: .

Haha I haven't! I had a few opportunities, but I rejected them thinking I couldn't cope with the commitment on top of a 30+ hour week in an advanced stream science degree. I regret it completely - one of my friends joined several revues during undergrad and completed our degree just fine (then again, she might not be human). My friends were in Med and Science revue last year! And one of them was in the USYD revue that happened just last week. It was hilarious. During the intermission one of the cast sat on the stage and played/hummed a tune the WHOLE time before getting dragged off at the end of intermission (the crowd booed, me included). I don't know why, but at the time it seemed to be the funniest thing I'd ever witnessed in my life.

You were studying Psychology? Smartypants. How come you didn't like Psychology? Seems like you made the right choice in switching, though!

-shoves a pillow into that monster chomp- HAH! :mcsquee:

Oh glob, that sounds like an awful situation. Hahaha that's irritating, of course you're unique :mcsquee: . If you don't mind me asking, what did he do that he's so guilty about? Did he cheat on you? Because if so, I'll roll up to UNSW with a bag of test tubes and thwack him on the head with it. And then roll away, glaring and flipping him the bird (both hands) as he looks on in confusion :mcangry: .

That. Is. So. Freaking. Awesome. How are they using the low earth orbit satellite? Pardon my ignorance - I know nothing about physics/engineering/space/anything math related except for molar calculations.

Edit: Forgot to reply to that thing about dating someone at work - we actually only see eachother at lunch time as we're both so busy at work! I guess it's a unique situation for us where our work prevents us from pestering each other haha. I reckon if we didn't work together we'd only be able to see each other on weekends, so this works for now. :mcheh:

I lost parts of me in the rain and wind. Better regenerate by consuming my people -breathes in sugar-

It's not like it was a public hospital either. I got sent to a private one in Concord West. I hope I never get that anaesthetist again. I much prefer the cannula in my hand than inner elbow :s It was OK. Pain killers were my friends until I noticed they were knocking me out really hard. By the 2nd day I decided to go with panadol. I'm just glad it's over ;-;

I thought engineering had a high work load! :qs: I had the option to do 26 hrs a week this semester but I chose not to do so. I don't think your friend is human either. Did he/she have a high WAM for the semester though? Your WAM will definitely suffer if you do revue whilst doing full time science/eng degree. Although, a lot of revue is down time, waiting for people to finish up so you can practice your dance/lines/song with the directors and musicians. However, when there are 10 people with down time distracting you, playing mafia and being practising their roles, it's very hard to get any work done.

Haha, I'm not surprised they got in trouble. Intermission is for cast briefing, make up and costume change as well as getting into position. They could've potential delayed the show. It's more likely someone from tech would do that. One of my favourite parts was running around in the passageway underground to get to the other side of stage :qlol: After every skit, people are running about, ripping off their clothes and hastily putting on other ones. I usually wore my dance outfits under my skit costumes.

There was a dance where I played the role of a toy soldier and I had to do my own army face paint. I drew some horizontal lines with black paint on my face and stepped back only to realise I've done cat whiskers ._.
It was too late to wash it off, reapply stage make up and the paint so I went with it.

Psychology got too repetitive by 2nd year and I was getting really bored of subliminal messaging and conditioning =_=; So I decided to call it quits. I have a friend who did 3 years of her psych degree and in her last semester decided to change to comp sci. I didn't want to be her :c

-eats pillow- :B

He broke up with me thrice but the first two times was too afraid of being lonely to completely call it off. The third time he broke up with me over Skype and said, "let's not talk until we're both ready," and completely cut me off whilst I was suffering from depression and due for surgery. He deliberately, I quote, "stopped loving me because he was afraid of me breaking his heart." Which is weird but makes sense knowing him. He's grown up with trust issues especially with family and I was his first love. Also, during the break up Skype call he kept laughing like making me cry was the funniest shit in the world.

He actually lost several friends over this break up. A bunch of his friends sided with me (without my knowledge until a year after the break up) because they thought he was a total douche and they speculated that he broke up with me for current gf. According to him it's not true but I really couldn't care less.

It's just one of those societies that do engineering undergrad student projects like international competitions and such. I believe they're currently designing one for some Canadian competition. We learn real life engineering skills. HUZZAH. It takes pictures and you can conduct experiments on it I believe. This is one.
And the rover is designed for a Mars exploration design comp.

That sounds like a good arrangement. I would hate to be distracted from work because of my partner hahaha. I get distracted so easily, it's horrible.

I think the two courses are similar in terms of workload and competitiveness. I'm glad you're enjoying it because I think you kind of have to in order to survive in these types of courses :mcomg: . Yeah, my WAM did end up being higher than hers. But only by a few marks. She's a smart cookie :mcheh: .

Haha I think the intermission thing was an actual skit - so it was all part of the joke. I can imagine it must be hectic backstage! The amount and speed of costume changes is amazing.

...Someone is practicing their skateboarding outside my open window (curtains are drawn though). I think they're trying to do an ollie. From what I can hear... they're failing. A lot. >>; Go away, it's late.

Haha nawww cat whiskers are the best. Whenever I got super stressed while studying I would get out a marker and draw a cat nose and whiskers on my face. It had this weird calming effect for me. Sometimes my mother wonders where she went wrong with me...

Wow. I wasn't aware so many people were dissatisfied with Psych. I took some pysch units in my first year as electives and found it so interesting. For a while I contemplated majoring in Psych, but then in second semester of first year I took my first molecular biology and genetics unit and the rest is history :mcsquee: .

Crap. That was my only pillow. -fluffs you up and sleeps on you instead- :mccute:

Wow. Sure he has had trust issues but surely he's old enough by now to know how to respect another human being? I'm sorry you had to go through that, sounds like a terrible ordeal for the both of you. :C It seems like you've mostly moved on, though, which is awesome. Keep it up :mcsquee: .

It's kind of sad that you guys have to resort to societies to learn relevant engineering skills. Like - what's the point of the degree then?! >>; I found that most of my degree wasn't relevant until our final semester. Most of the skills I use now are from the practicals in our last semester (we had to design our own projects/experiments, write a mock publication and present our data in a conference-like setting... so it was like a real research project from start to finish). The rest of my skills I learnt from work experience which I had to fight tooth and nail to get access to.

WOWWW that picture looks amazing. I can't wait to see what you guys get up to! And I hope you win your competitions hehe. Is it just your exbf stopping you from joining that society? I reckon you should go for it anyways hehehe. What an awesome opportunity. And you already sound passionate about it.

I'm hoping engineering wouldn't be as bad in terms of employment considering they make a lot of effort to get women working for them. There's also a lot more help offered to us. I should really should look into doing my industrial training soon D: I hear they're a pain to get but there's a 60 day industry training requirement if you want to graduate.

B-b-but I was meant to be a fierce, strong soldier ;-; Soldiers don't have cat whiskers on their face.

Isn't that hard to get off? :qshock:
Don't worry my mother too. I do a lot of weird dancing, singing and talking to myself. I occasionally yell nonsense at walls when I'm stressed. >>
It helps me get everything out.

Psych is fun as an elective but as a 3-4 year degree or potentially 6 years of your life, I think it's a pain ;-; It's just not for me.

I am the worlds most uncomfy pillow D: Good luck with this. You'll regret it.

He's a giant baby that doesn't eat his veggies =A= Yup, we've both moved on. I have someone else in Canberra (kind of), he has someone else. She has money and freedom I didn't have when we were together and that's what he wanted the most. He always wanted me to sleep over to which my reply is always, "I can't."

Well everything we learn is relevant but there's a difference between being able to make the calculations, designing the parts on paper/CAD/FEA for a project and going through the process of getting the physical thing made for you to touch and hold. When you have the physical part in front of you, you can also experience test planning and doings tests on the beta parts to enure it complies with its requirements. There's a lot of testing involved after the making of the actual part/s. Usually you order a lot and BREAK IT! Hehe.

We do have 2 engineering design courses, one in first year and another in 2nd year, but societies help you apply more of the knowledge you attain in lectures into a hands on environment. I think there's just too much to learn. We do have Thesis A and Thesis B in 4th year which is applying the knowledge we learnt over the years, doing our own research and final presentation etc.
Mrow wrote:The rest of my skills I learnt from work experience which I had to fight tooth and nail to get access to.
Was work experience something your faculty organised or did everyone seek it out themselves?

I assume it's a lot harder in med to have a hands on society?

Unfortunately, my ex bf is one of the chief engineers in the society. -cryyyy-
He cannot be avoided. I want to go for it, I should but I just need the courage to walk in and sign up. I just hate dealing with the awkwardness >__<

Yikes, that sounds awful, Master Poshi. You probably don't need to hear this, but I just want to say you deserve to be with somebody who respects you more than he did. :qh:
That's a whole lot of writing you guys so I don't really have enough thoughts collected to contribute to the conversation at hand, so I'll change it if you don't mind. ^^
Oh, could I get a Spring '15 Kanzashi in black, please? :mclove: Thanks so much! I still need to get furniture, but I don't want all of it. (I've gotten all of the avvie items except this and the Dango, but I think I have enough for the Dango.)

Welcome, Mrow! I hope you like it here.
Are either of you (or anyone else who feels like joining in) extroverts? (Technically it's "extraverts" but I'm not swapping to that.) I am an extrovert, and according to the Meyers-Brigg's test I'm an ENFP. My twin, Arrowdancer, is one, too. But we are a little different temperamentally. I feel like people think we're not. :(
