One day you awoke to a terrible racket. It was a near-constant bombardment of noise, as though you stood in a wind tunnel with the mechanical rumble and high whine of turbine engines competing with the roar of air movement to echo the loudest -and yet there appeared no source for the sound.
Your pets slept soundly still, no alarmed cries broke the night, and no source for the cacophony was visible.
The noise was too great, it was hard to even think. With an effort of will that left you shaking, you attempted to push aside your awareness of the racket so you could concentrate. Gradually, it appeared to fade, and as it did so, you bemusedly noticed that *everything* was stilling, not merely the noise. In fact... you rushed over to your pets, for their breathing had paused, but halted when you passed your window -a flying bat was suspended mid-air.
The sound you heard was that of each passing moment.
The power of time was yours.
