oooh, in that sense! Setting a mood, sort of thing. Yes, I guess I can see that. It's kind of like background music, used that way...

Yeah, I would have said it's for setting the mood, too. Also, it might not necessarily be undesirable to filmmakers to have the genre clearly recognizable, so people who like that genre will be automatically interested when they see some trailers or snippets of the movie.

It's called pathetic fallacy. They use keys symbolism in the weather to show what the character is feeling or where the storyline is going. Bright sunny day - all is well. Storm clouds on the horizon - something big coming soon. Raining and grey - miserable. We understand this intuitively because of our cultural semiotics (the way symbolism is used and how we understand it) so that sets the scene very easily.

It's the same when the opposite is done. So if a character dies and then their friend/mother/lover steps outside into a bright sunny day, they'll be there looking startled or confused because you as the viewer understand that it's at odds with how they are feeling. It's a common trope to say the world shouldn't still be turning, the sun shouldn't still be coming up, etc, while I feel this way.

(I need to stop before I write an essay about literary devices lol)

I think there used to be info about it on the front page of this thread... I'm not sure why it's gone, maybe Firn is too busy to do it at the moment? But I have no idea.

i agree, it doesn't hurt to ask. turns out i can't afford it at the moment :mcheh: which i'm not surprised by, but since i couldn't recall any details at all about her custom commissions, including how much it costed, i decided to go ahead and ask her. i also asked whether she takes commission paid in installments with the knuffel given after payment is completed, and she said she only takes payment in a go, which is what i had expected. that's safer after all.

i feel kind of bad for bothering her, but i had money put by to be able to donate for the first time in a while, and i wanted to find out whether i had enough to commission her. i'm not sad that i won't be able to. because this way i can spread this money over a few months, and donating a little every month for a while :mcglee:

a couple of times before, i;ve flung my money at this site one month only to be unable to spare anything for it for the practically the rest of the year. and i mean, that ensured i got the donation perks that month, but somehow it didn't feel so good later lol. i'm going to try spreading it out and see if that feels better. even if i spread it out i'm not going to be able to donate at all most months, from what i can predict, but we'll see.
