@Dream: tell me about it
It's taken me years to get my first gen knuffel to lvl 100. Hahaha. I'm just really slow with levelling mine. I go through stages where I always feed and dig and long periods of nothingness.

I'm surprised a large percentage are home schooled for religious reasons. I thought a larger percent would be due to lack of facilities nearby (like those who live in the country) or health issues. I think I now remember my one friend who was home schooled! It was medical reasons though. That's the only person I know :S

Mosaics sounds a little random but probably a lot of fun :D Do they offer music lessons?

@Kiseu: HI. Welcome back! What was the research paper on?
I'm doing well thanks. I got coconut oil in my eyelashes and now I can't really see :qhehe:

Here, being homeschooled is really, REALLY rare. It's usually a health problem, or young people who have a professionnal career to manage along with school.
People still have to physically attend the exams. Transcripts aren't enough, you still have to pass the same exams as everyone else.

The religious reason doesn't really apply where I live, we do have private catholic schools but we're special so most schools offer some sorts of "religion" class.

I chose homeschool because of convenience, wouldn't have been able to work full time on top of being at school.
And now I have enrolled again in online college because I can't properly attend it while in Japan (where I absolutely want to take cooking class, to answer your question Poshi)

It's kind of cool because my paper was on online education xD @Kuuki
Basically I talked about online education + it's impact on the brain.

It was really interesting but sapped my strength ;w; now I'm ready to bum around for the rest of the year, even though I have two huuuge exams at the end.. I don't think I have the energy to care at this point xD

Over here, most people choose to homeschool their children because they don't want their children to be "corrupted" by other children. So I guess religious reasons?

Though maybe my definition of homeschooling is different. Homeschooling is when parents choose to teach their children/hire tutors to teach their children instead of sending them to school. Grown people taking highschool completion courses/higher education courses/career courses/etc. instead of going to school is called Distance/Online Education here. Distance education is when the materials are sent over through mail or by physically going to pick them up yourself but no lectures, while online courses are when the materials are sent over the internet including the lectures, though the homework and exams may have to be handed in/done physically.

Good luck, Kiseu. Take a day off if you can afford it, and then get your butt in gear!

@Kuuki: when you say full time work and school you mean tertiary education and not high school right? Usually when people refer to 'school' here they mean high school/primary education. We refer to tertiary edu as uni. They recently changed the law where you can't drop out before yr 11.

I guess if you mean it like that, a number of people 'homeschool'. It's more like online courses really where you listen to online lectures, you take examinations through online means and maybe you'll pop into a center for the final exam.

@Kiseu: cool c: so health implications right or broader?
Well, the end of the year is a long way away! Take a week off and then you'll find yourself really bored and wanting to study again haha.

Even so, won't they just be sent to a religious school? Over here they offer Christian schools + other denominations. Of course, you need to have money to attend those. I feel if my parents took that approach, I would be the most socially awkward person in the world.

Here tertiary education doesn't always equal Uni so it's school. Easier than to detail all the possibilities.
Actually some of the tertiary education is even dispensed in high schools.

See when I say everything can be confusing

Same. We have some uni courses high school students can do.
Usually people refer to the institution they attend like, 'I've got uni/tafe/college today,' or even, 'going to class.' School refers to high school or primary school.
I don't often hear those at uni saying, 'I'm going to school today.' I guess it's just how people are around here :s

I think I'm sick again. Autumn brings odd weather.

edit:
kpop is deeply embedded in my skull today
anyone listen to kpop?

AAAAAAAAAAAHHH I'm being eaten! lol hi, Po.

I've only ever encountered Christian schools here, but those are all private. So you need to be very rich to send your children there. And of course, just because you go to Christian school doesn't mean that everyone there would be perfect. It's not so much a matter of religion, but that they don't want their children to pick up bad habits such as swearing, wearing skimpy outfits, cigarettes, drinking, talking about sex, etc. If you teach them yourself, you can control the type of input you have on your children so you won't have them inadvertently learning about things you're not ready to tackle yet or you don't want them knowing just yet.

In Canada, we call them schools as well.

Hey, Po! I've been wondering. I've been teaching a class that is based on Britain and Australia, and I've had to teach them about TAFE (writing letters to the institution after being accepted into a TAFE program). Is it pronounced like tape except with an F? Or is it pronounced like tah-FEH? Or maybe TAH-feh?

I'm desperately fighting off getting sick and calling it allergy attack. :qlol:

I don't really like kpop. :x <- is a terrible Korean
