Well unless it's a weird, small bank that has debit only cards, almost all major chains have debit/credit cards. It's not like a credit card that has "loaned" money that you have to pay back, it merely adds a credit function to the card and uses a different transaction process from your bank account. Most often credit charges on debit cards are just delayed a bit and then the money comes out.
Like, lately, the card readers at walmart haven't been reading my debit card even with my pin. So I've had to run the card as credit and it goes through just fine. Gonna have to get a new card, I think. Hubby's has the chip thing on it too, mine doesn't and sometimes the credit doesn't work but the chip does, bleh.
Chips are awesome though. The bar on your card creates a number for the machine to scan, same number every time and can be skimmed by card scanner hackers. The chip creates a randomized number every time and is almost impossible to steal via their wavelength readers.
