From what i hear it's really a lot of boring paperwork with the occasional dig where you might find something, so maybe it wasn't a total loss to not go into it?
Definitely XD
And job prospects are dire.
Though to be fair my area was pretty rich in "interesting" digs/finds. You can't build something in cities without finding something.

I hear mixed things about it; in some regions every construction project has to have an archaeologist attached to it, because something will definitely be found and they have to document what it is and when it's from and submit the report on it to see what kind of schedule it'll get put on (halt the entire construction until fully excavated? Assign a small team to document and do quick excavation as they continue construction, just a little slowly? Or not worth it and just plow through with the obligatory stop-and-record-and-recheck every X amount further down they go?).
Those regions, being an archaeologist is really lucrative. Even so, most end up pairing it with something else after a decade or so; some of them also go into architecture or some other construction-related field, some more into teaching, some more into historical-based art, some get into the reports and bureaucratic part and become lawyers or public officials or whatever, a few get bored standing around all day until something is found and became vloggers, etc.
Then other regions, no one can get hired unless you're primarily an academic who can do lots of publications per just a little time in the field, and then you're hired to teach, not to be a field archaeologist...
So I hear mixed things.

Unfortunately, those positions in France are through a government agency, meaning it's a government job, meaning that while you're set for life you're chronically understaffed and underpaid.
Didn't make me dream at all.

Definitely.
Where I'm at now, I could change jobs everyday and find something new in my field if I wanted.
Where I come from, I struggled to even get an internship.
Then again, I'm in hospitality and now live in a very touristic place. Which I didn't before even if we did have some tourists.

There are two different colored hairs this year!
Also I had a friend who worked at an amusement park for a while as a teen. She loved it.

Real talk for a moment: Can we Go back to that month that Pokemon Go was released. Everyone was so happy and the only people down my throat were old men at work who complained about a cell phone app kids were playing. Can we have that? Please.
