Rubie wrote:The cool thing is that I can visit any library in the same district and check out with my card. The town next over got a new library built within the past 5 years so might go see what they have for their selection since the new library is much bigger eventually. But my list for ebooks I found to borrow eventually is over 30. Whoops.
Most of the ones I keep getting suggested on the app looks like erotica. Like nty lol.

Oh man that reminds me when I used to go to fanfiction or something like that and read people's stories.
A graphic novel in first person sounds interesting, but I think I'll stay away from it because of a certain book I read that I couldn't stand. Unless I am understanding wrong and the graphic novel isn't in first person, but the original story just is?
That is cool! One library card, a full district of library access. Nice! Ha ha ha, a TBR list of 30 is nothing. Wait until it hits 300... and it will... there are just so many good books out there!

That last guess of yours is correct.
The original story is 1st person.
The graphic adaptation is not.

I know it's not anything rn lol. I've just been browsing the librarian recommendations. Plus I haven't explored the Asian Pacific heritage month list I saw yesterday on the app yet so I'll probably be adding a lot more.

Oh okay. That sounds a lot better lol I have never seen a graphic novel in first person before. Be kind of weird to do it that way unless they can immerse the reader well.

Hm. How *would* that work?
Show all the scenes from the eyes of the protagonist? That would take a skilled artist; I wonder how you would express the field of vision... fade out around the edges, mostly have it in an oval? During fight scenes or scenes where adrenaline goes up, restrict the peripheral vision??
Hm.

I don't know tbh. But I just got to thinking a mystery graphic novel would fit well. Like something happens outside the person's view so not even the readers know what is going on. Ooh that would be so interesting now.

But why does the scene have to be in first person too?
I mean, a first person narrator is, well, a narrator. You don't have to see it from their eyes LITERALLY.

Think of movies, for example.
*looks up*
Ok, Wikipedia comes to help me with this list :mclaugh:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category: ... erspective
These are films in which the audience sees just what a character does, all or part of the time.
The point is the audience/reader only learns stuff as the narrator/main character does.
It does not mean you can't see things in a "normal" way...

Well, I meant you are reading it like the detective. Like you find out things as they do? I don't know how well I can make it make sense lol.

But yeah, sometimes when I read a book I sometimes forget if the characters know a detail yet or not and I'll think to myself why are the glossing over this fact? Then remember they have yet to find that out. Plus I love reveals in books. One of my favorite things and the excitement that builds up to it.

I'm currently reading a book titled "The Autistic Brain", witten by an autistic person who manages to really put the focus on things that interest me. Very scientifical but with a very personal touch.
I'm enjoying it.

I like Temple Gradin's works! Her writing style is very clear and direct for how much information she packs in.

Anyhow, referring to earlier -of course the scene doesn't have to be in first person too. I usually MUCH prefer it when it's not. But then of course my brain had to do the thing where it searches out the alternatives and started to speculate on ways to make first person interesting and immersive to me without being alienating, so that's what I was thinking about.

That sounds like a really interesting read. I might have to read that someday.

Yeah I agree. I was just thinking like how to make first person immersive. I would probably sit there and think how weird and off it feels if I ever find one like that lol.
