I love gothic architecture and maximalist interior design - I'm not a fan of the all white/grey minimalist stuff that seems to be popular.

Yeah, I love the traditional houses here, like Chettinad houses for example. Modern houses and apartments are so boxy and boring.

It’s the reason why I like older architecture. When they redesigned part of the ROM here, I was like “ewww why did you try to modernize it?” Like part of the design now is like all sharp modern edges. Even now I feel like it’s ugly. XD

It's like many of the new buildings here are so boxy, square and boring. There's no personality to buildings these days, no character or charm.

Old houses come with their own problems but I much prefer the wonky walls and unique shapes. (When I can afford to buy a house :qhehe: )

An Architect I know spoke about this on the news a short time back. In the earlier years of architecture the architect made the design and then the builders would come and made the plans fit building specs.
But over the past twenty to thirty years, the building regulations and specs come first, than function, then costs, and if lucky there might be a bit of budget left to add an architect for design. :}

Very interesting! I know of an artist on youtube that mentioned they were going to college to be an interior architect. I'm no good at math, so I'll just keep on keeping on in my english program and maybe I'll get a cool online writing/teaching job. :)

i wouldn't be surprised. before, i don't think stuff like building specs and budget really mattered. now, that's all they think about lol.

Architecture is a cool subject to go into; it's never been something I considered before but seems very interesting!

Architectural history is so interesting to me. Looking at how what was going on societally at the time shaped the way stuff was built.
