It's pretty unfortunate when they decide to simplify things :mcsad: One thing that really disappoints me is when you hear someone talking about a plot hole or part of a movie that doesn't make sense and someone tells them 'No, you have to read the book, it's explained in there' because you shouldn't have to read the book to understand the movie. I still loved the Maze Runner movies but saw a lot of these comments about it. Personally, I wouldn't mind a movie being maybe half an hour longer if it means they get in a few extra details from the book.

I guess people sometimes make it seem like movies are just one big giant ad made to get you interested enough to read the book. I loved the Maze Runner movies but I can also acknowledge it's flaws.

The characters were great though :mccute: This talk is making me rememeber how much i liked the characters, and ugh.. it was such a fun series to read :mcsquee:

Aw you really make me want to read the books!
Yea the relationship between Terese and Thomas seems a bit confusing to me. I am really looking forward to find out what is really behind it!

The days/weeks when it's empty I think wistfully of when it's full, when it's full I think wistfully of when it's empty.
But for all my mutters about getting organized with my TBR lists, it's only a velleity. I'll never actually change :qwhee:

Which one are you in the middle of now?

I am definitely all for movies being longer to fit in details haha. I also think sometimes they only think about the first book in the series and leave the rest of the sequels as someone else's problem to think about when one of the key plot points just isn't there anymore. It was the same for the Hunger Games now I try to think about it - that character of the mayor's daughter was skipped from book one's movie because she was only a minor character there, but then they had to think of substitutions later on because she gets important towards the end of the series XD

Some classic books seem to get away with it though. Like I feel like Jane Austen adaptations are often so faithful they all but copy the speech word for word. So, how come they get away with it XD Do we need to wait for THG or TMR to be classics in 100 years before they get full adaptations? Haha XD

I agree! I don't mind longer movies, it is just important that the full story makes sense and that they don't rush into telling the full story, but leave things out for the sake of it.

That must have been a real bummer, to leave out a character and then realize it'll be very important in the end :qhehe:

I am currently reading:
- J.K. Rowling - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Russian)
- Herman Melville - Moby Dick (English)
- Howard Zinn - A People's History of the United States (English)
Depends what I am in the mood for...
And you, Akili?

I just realized I haven't read one book in German year, even though that is actually my primary language :qhehe:

I started 'Artful' by Ali Smith, came across it on goodreads lists of literary criticism and literary theory. it's described as lectures reworked in a work of fiction. I'm just on the first pages and really like the writing, it flows so well :mclove:

how's everyone doing with the reading challenge?
