Crows are also smart and will remember you 8u
I rarely see crows as we mostly get black birds called grackles.

I think she's been raised by raccoons.
She would always come with this mama raccoon and her babies.
I watched them interact and I told my mom I think the mama raccoon takes care of her.
One night, the mama raccoon started cleaning her and I was right - she's been caring for the calico this whole time xD
She's started following me around the whole time I'm putting food out and she rubs on my legs and lets me pet her briefly.

Unfortunately, I'm nowhere near close to the black and white cat...
He swiped at me again the other day, but he hit the food bag and not me.
I feel so bad for him because he needs medicine on his sores.
If he'd let me, I'd clean and doctor them and they'd get healed.
But he's an asshole >Bu
He meows at me for food, snacks, catnip, water - and when I give them to him he hisses and swipes at me <<

DK: Why 8u?

"The host will generally place the tea bowl in a way where the most impressive part of the design faces the guest. Thus, to avoid using the front of the tea bowl, you rotate it twice clockwise before drinking."
The reason the tea bowl is turned at tea ceremonies!

ovo later on in the chapter it talks about how to walk properly in kimono, even how to go up the stairs in one.

Learn lots of things in Holmes of Kyoto! xD

I feel like I've heard that before...
I did read up on Geishas and I watched a movie with my bestie...Pretty sure I looked up tea ceremonies too.
Or I remember an episode from Sailor Moon xD

People often mistake Geisha for being prostitutes :\
I remember this person calling them whores and someone corrected them and the person continued to argue that they're whores. When someone dropped actual information about Geisha, they were called a weeb.
So the most intelligent person in the conversation got insulted 8u

I remember Memoirs of a Geisha, Saiyuri commented on how after the war, any girl with a kimono and painted face called herself geisha and it had upset her. She later decided to rebuild the Geisha house in which she was raised, to show people true Geisha.

I never read the book, nor do I know how accurate any of it is.

But I do thing, if that were true, the soldiers would come home and tell their stories and in those stories, 'geisha' were whores because of those girls telling lies like they did.

Well, there's always a bit of a complexity. The biggest reason (in reality) is really just that foreigners would treat them like prostitutes. To someone who isn't familiar with the different types of kimonos, a simple robe (such as a yukata) is easily mistaken for something more formal (like a furisode) and for what a person might typically wear in their role--either as a performer vs. a geisha vs. a courtesan, etc. It becomes even more difficult if you've only relied on art for the references.

I always thought the oiran were really glamorous but didn't understand that they were often (but not always) prostitutes. You've got to have some real neck strength to hold all those decorations in your hair.

The stuff they put in their hair to hold it in place, the decorations... I couldn't do it... My neck wants to snap half the time from just the weight of my head alone... x-x

The Kimono that Aoi is wearing to the tea ceremony in Holmes of Kyoto is called a sha.

Sha is a casual summer kimono, and a ro is the formal summer kimono.

not sure I have this right, homongi is a lined kimono worn in the winter. From the way Aoi describes it, I'm guessing its a formal type kimono, not casual.

the sashes used to tie back kimono sleeves is called a tasuki!

So many types and styles and names to learn and remember.. x-x

Mmhm, it's fascinating, isn't it? I think it's probably similar to learning about victorian fashion for European/western civilizations.

Yes, ignorance from foreigners has blame 8u
A big difference I've seen is that Oiran have their obis done up in the front so they can easily undo it and remove their clothes.
I had never noticed that until someone pointed it out.

Becoming a Geisha is a lot of hard work and dedication. A lot of people don't realize that. My bestie was in Japan for a while she's the one who helped teach me about becoming a Geisha and how difficult it is.
It'd take a while to fix their hair and they'd have to sleep on a specific wooden pillow to keep it from messing up.
