i never order clothes online. my sister has been doing it much more frequently though. after all, without trying something, how would you know it would fit? what if you don't like the cutting or style? 8U

Considering most brands design their clothes for thin women and then for bigger women (like me) they just do the same silhoutte, it's a miracle I find anything at all that fits - even in physical stores.

I'm sometimes tempted to buy clothes online because I'm trying to focus on buying high quality (not fancy brands, I mean durable clothes) and that's kinda hard to find.
But then it's so complicated it throws me off.

That's exactly my problem. I'm in Japan, things are designed for Japanese people who usually have a very different body type from mine. What's fashionable right now is Korean fashion which still doesn't help me. So while before I could still resort to H&M or Zara it's been years since I found something I liked. It still does happen at Zara but then I look at the price and don't feel ready to pay so much for Zara so I go back without buying anything.

It's getting to the point that I've resorted to going to the one store near my place that caters to women doing, well, questionnable work. At least I find things that fit my body type here.

1) Measuring yourself (hence the staying at a stable weight for me).
2) Buying things that look like what you're already wearing

Even measuring yourself, can you trust the sizing reference in online stores?

I suppose for certain clothes you could get them tailored.
Which of course only makes sense if you are splurging in a piece you expect to wear for many years.
But again that would require an stable weight...

Fancy. Or old-fashioned.
Depending on how you look at it.

If you invest in a good jacket or coat, it may be worth tailoring. Because you are probably gonna wear it a lot.
Other pieces, I don't know...

Here at least, tailors used to be pretty common but now not so much.
In the old times - when clothes were made to last - people used to take to the tailor those clothes they inherited.
That was way cheaper than buying new stuff. Which was often tailor-made anyway because there were no fast-fashion industries.

Nowadays tailor-made clothes are usually pricey, compared to ready-to-wear clothes.
But you can also buy regular clothes and ask the tailor to fit them to your body. That should be affordable option.

I just don't think that buying a 20€ piece and paying extra 10€ to the tailor would make any sense at all.
It's worth spending it if it's a very durable piece in which you were gonna splurge. Like a high quality coat you mean to wear for 20+ years.
