I currently live in Texas with my aunt, but my family came from Mexico to California. I lived there with my grandma until she passed away. :>

No they don’t burn real money lol, I’ve never heard them burn real money. No its always white paper money. XD real money can’t be used by the dead, hence the specially made paper money.

I think that's a really cool tradition tho...
I remember learning about placing coins on the eyes of the dead so they had money for the ferry to guide them to the afterlife and it reminds me heavily of that.

Yeah that’s was Grecian/Roman myths i believe. They placed the two coins on top of the eyes and the coins was used as payment to Charon to cross the river of Styx. If they don’t have it, they’re stuck other side of the river, unable to reach the underworld.
