I think it's a bit more than socialization since personalities can be so different, but it certainly helps. Like, I've never had a cat that just climbed into a person's lap with no prompting to go to sleep and yet I have two now that will do just that.

Well like I said I've never really raised a cat outside of barn cats. I'm more experienced with dogs. If I get a cat, I would honestly be at a total loss on how to take care of it. My only experience with an indoor cat was when I was very young. My mom got it from someone who didn't disclose all the health problems it had and she couldn't take care of it. I think we had him for less than month.

I've had two cats before this bitey gremlin.

I had my first one when I was about 5 and he was not that snugly, but he'd generally sit near you (but not on you) and always let you pet him, even if he didn't seem to enjoy it that much (he never stopped us from doing it though, so he might have just been pretending, lol). He'd always lick my head after a shower too, and that was always funny. Died of diabetes pretty young, so he might have grown more snugly or less snugly with time, who knows. Was a very calm and sweet cat regardless.

My second cat (adopted her a few months after the first, actually) would always demand pets and snuggles, would jump on you or next to you unprompted, and sleep in your lap as long as you let her, and all around just loved us, though she hid when strangers came around. Very sweet as well. Lived to the age of around 17, and was cuddly all throughout.

Both my first cats we adopted as strays that we (or other people) found outside. Both turned out fairly social and well-behaved. My current cat was gotten very young from a shelter and so was not socialized by either parents or other cats (I'm hypothesizing, to be fair). So what I'm getting at is that it's a bit of nature and nurture, lol. My gremlin has a much more excitable personality (he loves to play, yet my first two cats just wanted to sleep near people), so nature, but he was also not socialized by other cats so he doesn't understand that biting is not a sign of affection, which is nurture. So we lucked out with the first two cats who had good personalities despite the lack of nurturing as kittens and then got the contrary with our third (this time, third time was not a charm, lmao).

We had a cat that would let me abuse the poor thing
To be fair I was about four and learning how to handle cats
My first Actual Cat, oh she became a grumpy old broad. She loved to snooze on the one windowsill. And then fall off. Dad ended up installing a board so she'd stop falling ahahahaha
My current two, Doink and Rufus, vary when they want snuggles

I love the fact that your dad installed a board for her, that's adorable! My cat is constantly trying to climb into the window's mosquito net, which is a big no-no. >.<

well that's good, it would be just like a cat to completely ignore it after it was installed for them. XD like "NO WHY did you DO THAT, i WANTED to fall off! >8U"

She did at first, but after she realized that she wasn't falling off in her sleep on it she liked it more
