It's interesting learning what people think are cute 8u

I recently came across the Yami Kawaii trend.
I'd seen people making art of it, but I didn't know it was a legit thing.
Combining things on normally wouldn't and calling it cute xD

My bestie sent me a video explaining it.
It was pretty interesting. But kind of sad.

8u but they have these syringes and it has little crystals hanging off like it's liquid xD

It kinda makes me think of the harujuku style in japan

They started off talking about Harajuku and fashion there.

I really love looking at stuff like that.

Yami kawaii starts of scary and gets intriguing.
That's of course what I think of it at least.

I'm with ashabellanar, I didn't realize there was a name for it.

I tend to like stuff like that. For me, it's the juxtaposition between "typically cute" colors and styles with darker and usually more serious themes. It has a shock value I like. Kinda like Guro Lolita and Pastel Gothic styles.

It may just because I like cult films and have strange tastes, but I've encountered quite a bit of satirical treatments of depression and suicide in Japan's counter-culture. Maybe, in a way, this fashion is a natural outgrowth of that? It's probably also an outgrowth of the typical Harajuku style, as Madissskin said.

I'm the same way.
I really love cutesy things being like really violent and gory xD

The video I saw was kind of sad.
They talked to a woman that attempted suicide a few times.
She tries to help others, but still wants to die.
It's really shitty. Especially when people shut you up once you bring it up.
I live in the US and have had depression since I was in my early teens.
When I'd get depressed, I was told to stop being sad because I had no reason to be or got yelled at and scolded xD

Definitely. I also get told a lot of the things I find genuinely cute are actually just disturbing or cute.

That's heartbreaking.

I've noticed the US has a sigma against mental illness in general. It's infuriating, like it's just like any other illness.

Just dance to the beat of a different drum u8

I've seen people say things I like are disturbing and count towards me being violent xD

I think it's getting better in the US. I mean, it was way worse decades ago.
