Haha no worries - glad to educate :B
I had gerbils growing up and would love to get a couple again (or some rats :3 ), but my cat has brought in enough dead mice for me to know that won't be possible in his lifetime haha

Bettas need a lot more space than most people give them.
Hamsters are cute and fun, but some of them are bitey. I would not recommend a hamster unless you're ok with the possibility of it being bitey or unless you get the hamster from a place that will let you handle him before buying so you can see if he's bitey.
Rats are usually nice, and smart, and clean, but not always, so you kind of have to be prepared for anything with them too. I had 4 brothers. They were very messy and destructive, and I spent over $200 on just their cage. You can often find them for adoption on craigslist or with local rescues.
My favorite small animal pets have been mice and guinea pigs. I like the way that guinea pigs get excited and squeak. And I think the mice are fun to watch, and I like how they all sleep in a pile.

I wish I'd had luck with mice. Mine were too messy. XD I had to clean out their cage every couple of days.

I've never had a beta fish, so I can't provide insight on them. I have had 2 hamsters and I really wished I hadn't gotten them. They're cute but they're little handfuls. I had a rat that I named Penelope and I really liked her. She enjoyed being held and liked being social. She would let almost anyone hold her and give her love. lol Between those 3 choices, I would go with a rat.

I would say a rat or a hamster. BUT i would not recommend any of those dwarf type hamsters. They tend to be a**holes in my experience. Teddy Bear hamsters are the sweetest.
P.S. Hamsters get surprised when woken up abruptly (so don't scare them awake or they may react badly)
I have also had pet rats, and they are fun as well. Easy to care for and to handle
Betta fish i would not recommend. I hate cleaning fish bowls and they stink. Plus any betta I have ever owned didn't live as long as i expected with good care.

Fish are cute, but cleaning fish tanks is a major pain in the butt.
I've never had a pet rodent & don't want one. Some of them are cute, I guess, but when you've had to deal with your home being infested by vermin, it kind of makes them all awful.
I have two cats: a female tuxedo that we've had for almost three years (she was about 10 weeks old when we got her), and a new little boy who's just over 10 weeks old now. It would be nice if they'd get along. He just wants to play, but she's having none of it.
Also, I'd rather clean a litter box than a rodent cage.
