I rather had the impression that the repeated ones were repeated not because people liked them so much but because people couldn't come up with something more original.
I mean, we will most likely, over time, add all the "basic" hairstyles from anime and manga. What we are searching for here is something not everyone can come up with.

I found that I had at least a couple more hairstyles in me. These two hairstyles are a variant on the same theme, one I came up with. The idea is that, instead of actual hair, per se, you've got crystal rock formations growing out of your head. Like with the other hairstyles I did, I added two colors to give an idea of the effect that two toned hair would have on the design. The first one I'm going to link to is a shorter hairstyle and less complex geometrically.
ShortGemHairThis second one took quite a bit more time to do, and I think the effect is more visually pleasing.

Thought I'd give this a shot. Hair is two-toned to show how the front and back layers would be split.
