From what I've read, mules can do that, just as long as you don't use them to try & get more items out of charities & such. And also not to bump your own threads, pretending to be a separate account, that kind of thing 
But I'm a newbie, there's a great possibility I'm wrong... (I try not to be, though)

I think it is an unspoken fact in Japan that if your anime lacks a cute mascot character with which you are able to sell merchandise (animal or human, but preferably animal), your show will fail. Even if it serves no relevance to the plot. Big-breasted schoolgirls and mecha, those are optional. Mascots are not.
