So essentially she was kept that long because they didn't want to deal with hiring someone new? That's sad....

No they're trying to hire more people but it's a slow process and until they have enough people they're kind of stuck with her.

Also you can't just fire someone, you do have to have proof of behaviour and follow procedure, which can take a while. She made herself more fireable basically XD
People do let employees get away with a lot because they're scared of employment law/getting sued. Which is stupid, considering how hard it can be to win an unfair dismissal suit.

Yes but even if they don't win it they can still tie you up in court for ages with the barrister fees, surely?

It depends. If you win the suit, you can force them to pay your fees. Whichever way round the win comes in.
Also to be honest that might be a better financial option for the company than letting someone do mediocre work and cost them sales XD especially if they have a super cheap lawyer or someone who does no win, no fee.

Ahh that's a good point! I would hate to be the one making those kinds of calculations, though, so it's very good I am not a business owner.
Was it very hard, the first time you had to fire an intern?

Yeah, because I don't like confrontation. I actually had to do my first ever disciplinary action on her as well and it was so weird how people's behaviour changes once you're telling them off. She got really surly and tried to avoid the subject. I should have known then and there she wasn't going to improve. Then she went and did something that made the magazine look back so she had to go. That was kind of okay because I had to fire her over email (we weren't scheduled to meet face to face for a while), but still scary at the same time.

Did anyone get an extra halloween knuffel?
I mean, if I have items you want, I' be willing to trade (but I hoard the knuffel)

I got a second one. Would be be too much to ask that you not rename her? Not that I won't still give her to you.
