It's just another excuse to party
For example, Saint James is our patron saint, who was buried in a field and was found because a divine star pointed it out - and a city was later founded there, the city has his name.
Only that this is not true.
Saint James never was in this region. Not in all his life. How did his corpse appear in a field here, huh? Of course it did not.
Historians believe the corpse belonged to a renowned heretic named Pricillian (
wiki), who was executed and brought back to his country after his death. His followers had to hide his corpse and buried it in a lonely field, away from any population.
We know. We just don't care. We still celebrate it.
