Ah yes i totally understand that! When i was in England i was figuring out how to do something and a local came to me and asked if i could explain it to them and when i said i was only a tourist they were surprised. D:

And esp when you're in America some people don't even know where Belgium is located exactly! c':

"what do you mean you're not from the UK? You're from where??"

"Belgium is that a country?" yeah i've heard it all before :'D

"I speak Dutch"

And when they do know Belgium, they think everyone speaks French here

Omg when I mention I speak Flemish they look at me like I'm joking and made up a word or something c':

Yup, they have no idea what that possibly could be

And then you explain and they go 'ah like the Netherlands'

I have plenty of Dutch friends, we always make fun of each other's accent but they are all in agreement that my Flemish is adorable so yeah obv that makes it totally better c':
