What's the driver test like there?

To get our license, if we're under 25, we have to complete a log book documented with 120 hours of driving experience. Then we go to take a test with a supervisor. Now the supervisor can take us on several routes. At the RTA I'm going to, there are 4 possible driving routes I can be given. Usually people 'study' those routes before their test. You do get some chances if you make mistakes such as 'didn't check mirror before merging' but of course, there are immediate fail actions such as 'not stopping at stop sign for 3 secs, speeding' etc etc

Written test for permit. Before that you're just plain old driving illegally
If you pass that test, you get your permit. You can't drive alone. Other person must have their license and be over 21. You can't test for your license for six months, in which you must get at least 50 hours of driving in, and at least ten of them must be at night (they don't need documentation tho), and take a really boring five hour course that has a certificate that is good for one year
X location may be hardass about it, while Y is more lax
Closest one here is definitely on the X end

As for the test itself. You have so many points. You can actually fail for speed/looking around. Clocking the curb on the parallel park is an automatic fail. There's a few others but I haven't experienced them
I did do the three point turn backwards once, and hardass complained, so while that wouldn't have failed me on my own, her insisting that I wasn't looking around (I did, and my mirrors covered blind spots, but somehow she didn't know that), did

There's also driving schools but I never went to one
Course, you have restrictions when under 18 even with a license. No driving from midnight to about six in the morning unless it's work related
Still no one under 21 in with you, and no more than two others

Oh, and in my state, they don't give a flying fuck if you're under 16 and have a license from a different state. You can't drive here
Of course, if you only have a permit, you can't drive outside your state, period

The states is fairly lax, I just have bad luck which doesn't help my rut

In Australia it's really easy to obtain a motorbike licence.
OMG ARE YOU AUSSIE??

@Driving convo, I legit just completed the log book and everything last month XD

@Diving in other states, a couple of kids recently got in trouble as in one state they were allowed to drive with mates, and in the other they werent. There was a whole mix up over it ad I think the laws may be getting reviewed as it got a bit of public backlash.

You follow the laws of the state you're in
If you don't know the laws you better look them up

That way you don't bring a car with undercarriage lights to NYS, where they're illegal or g right on red somewhere in a state where you don't do that at all

Oh, I forgot about the permit. Ours is a multiple choice test. Yeh, here we have to exaggerate our checking actions as well to make sure the tester doesn't fail you for not checking cause they can't see it =A= Driving schools give you triple hours for the first 10 hours so people usually go to driving schools to reduce their hour load if they can afford it.

Yes, I'm Australian c: I still have 70 hours to go ;~; Thinking about waiting till I'm 25 to take the test but that's still 2 years away and I want to drive soon!
My family car is a fairly large one which I have such anxiety driving although the gears are really smooth so the driving is comfortable.

There's something wrong with me though cause I can easily parallel park or three point turn but merging gives me the damn shits.

So is ours
And if your permit expires, you have to retake it

Exactly the same c: Mine expires in a week so I'll need to retake it soon. I've had it for 5 years and never got around to it. I wish I could rent a car and drive around an obstacle course or something for practice. Finding a supervisor with time isn't easy and I dislike driving aimlessly without a destination.
