Although the brightness didn't affect me unless I'm on the site without my glasses (which is practically never), I'm very happy with the compromise you've come to and even more importantly, I find it very comforting that you have made these changes despite light sensitivity occurring in the minority. I love the new background, I find it beautiful and refreshing, both this one and the previous version. The circulating images in the header are great, the logo looks fantastic and although I'll miss that cute little butterfly, the frame around my avatar is very fitting. Now I wasn't sure if I should post this part or not, but seeing as you seem to still not love it as much as we do, I thought I'd tell you why we do more than just that it's less bright.
I do prefer the current version for a few reasons. I'm seeing a lot more differing shades in the clouds which to me gives it a more dynamic and realistic feel. Before, with it practically all being white, it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Now it feels like I'm relaxed looking at the sky whereas before it felt like I'd just come out of the shade and perhaps received sunshock. The first version may have been clean and crisp, but this version sets a scene.
I don't think the current blue is either dull or bright; it's soft and dreamy, adding to the relaxed atmosphere the whole picture gives.
The trees are beautiful (I've actually zoomed out a tick so I can see more of them), your choice to keep the colors quite soft makes it so that they almost melt out of focus, drawing your eyes more to the middle of the screen and giving the feeling that you're looking past them. I think that's a really good and important feature when browsing the content of the site. I felt as though the white before was almost in conflict with that, however. Now this could just be because it was being talked about so much so I just automatically focused on it, but the white was always in my periphery and I found my eyes naturally focusing on the middle of either side quite often. It was a bit of an issue for me, but I've had no such problem since you made the switch.
So all in all I love it..! I liked the site before and honestly I'm not one for change normally, but this took no getting used to."

Just wanted to pop in and say that I love the new background just like everyone else! :D

The previous background didn't hurt my eyes, but I love the cloud detail in bg_clouds2! Whichever one you end up going with, they're both lovely.

Ah, this. This actually has nothing to do with the new layout, I have always had that problem. I think it is caused by a image somewhere beeing posted in one of these messages you are replying to, at least I always used to get this layout mix up when I sent someone a PM with the gift of the queen notification image and that person would reply me back and/or I would reply back after that. For some reason that would always stretch the page for me, even though the image is not really wide and doesn't stretch the page.

I have no clue why exactly it is doing this, but the problem is, that this is not some error starkad did, becasuse our PM system is fully phpBB unmodified, so the guys over there seemed to have screwed up. I constantly hope that they fix it with every phpBB update.
