i actually don't know very much about any countries folklore. but now that you bring it up, i should probably study up on some. it does sound interesting. if i can ever get myself into a reading mood..............

The Tanuki in japan (it is an actual animal but like most animals in Japan there is a monster version x'D)

The males have large ballsacs that stretch very far (which apparently are hardly ever depicted in anime) the reason for this, the actual animal, its ballsac was used to make wallet/coin purses. the stretchier the hide was the better. So the Tanuki statues you see in japan, they have big balls owo

They're also tricksters >w>

I like the "sugar coated" version of the tanuki in myths. I turn several shades of red when I end up seeing their balls. XD

I can live without the shirime. XD But it is hilarious.

Looks like a person from afar but up close it has no facial features. Located in its butt hole is a large eye which shines like lightning. Interesting. x'D

It doesn't seem to hurt people, it just likes to freak them out. Haha x'D I like this one! I can see why it hasn't been in any anime though >w> pfft....

edit: OMG this GeGeGe No Kitaro anime has a Kappa episode where the Kappa go crazy and start stealing everyone's Shirikodama <3 >w<

Speaking of kappas and weird things, manala next door has a few short comics and stuff. She hasn't updated since...2012? I think? I wish she would I find it a bit amusing. There's a demon of sorts and a kappa and random other things going on.
