Handy for when it's cold and the power is out, too

Seasoned wood is best
Wet wood is worst
Some wood you can use immediately
Some needs to season

I'm very disappointed at the cold and wet weather right now. Just a week ago, it was 80 degrees out, which was a bit ridiculous, but there was no adjustment period at all!
I've been using the cats to keep warm but a fire sounds nice. Normally there's no use for a fireplace where I live so it's rare for a house to have something like that.

You will not believe it but that is exactly the reason why my mother wanted one.
It's also why we used those huge gas canisters for cooking at home, as long as you have matches you can use it even if the power is out.

Our stovetop and water heater are propane
So we still have the stove for cooking without power

Yeah we got all electric. And i doubt getting a generator will help since this place is so old and there’s nowhere to hook it up. XD;; i have been tempted, on multiple occasions, to get those solar panel generators lol. Like having an external battery that we can use if we ever have no power. 8u

My old family home had one that was exclusively used when we lost power. it happened often because we had a lot of trees close to power lines. It helped keep us warm but we watched that thing like a hawk in case it sparked up.
