I don't blame you. My daughter loves public school (might can price check a private school or charter school), so if I get custody of her, I'll let her go, so long as she doesn't end up with PTSD or surgeries. My son is begging me to homeschool him if I win court. One of my mom's regrets with me and my sister was making us do the same thing for fear of seeming to play favourites.

I feel like I'm very far away from being able to have legal custody of my daughter right now. Finishing college is one thing toward custody but the court wants to know that I have sound and safe transportation, adequate shelter (a house or apartment) and regular income. I'm about to graduate college, I have one class left. It's put this gaping hole in my heart, and it doesn't feel like it'll ever end.

I'm in the middle of similar nonsense. You have my deepest sympathies. I lost my kids due to my ex lying about DHR having a protection plan against me because I defended myself when he tried assaulting me. I didn't have access to any legal representation, he claimed DHR would take them away forever if I didn't settle, so, I settled. I don't even get to see my son for Christmas because my ex lied and said I wasn't giving my son his medication, my lawyer was too lazy to give a response, and so the judge just granted the motion without a hearing beforehand. I've been fighting for custody since October 2023 when my ex abandoned them, but the judge forced them to go back to him. The judge won't even pay attention to the hospital reports where I've had abuse documented. Our system is so corrupt and broken, I could scream. Good luck to us both! I hope you get her back soon.

Yeah, we're all tough. We'll pull through and conquer in the end. Prayers for you all the same. My ex has made soooo many violent threats, unfortunately not documented, but it's made me all the more sympathetic for other people with similar exes.

$1000 minimum? Holy guacamole! *checks my bank* Well, ours isn't much better, the minimum is $500. My bank's CD interest rates are about the same as the rates on my savings account at a credit union, so it might be worth checking out a credit union near you if you haven't already. It takes for-freaking-ever to mature, but if she's young enough, a savings bond might be an option. I think the cheapest ones are $25 or $50? I only recently got one for my kids, so I guess I gave them some spending money when they get to their mid-life crisises. x_x
