Right now I am reading the Johannes Cable series of books by Jonathan L. Howard. I may have developed a little bit of a crush on the title character.

Just finished Bad Beginning (I'm trying to make it through the entire Series of Unfortunate Events series). I'm about to also finish Ellen DeGeneres's Home and about to start the 7th Cirque du Freak book.

Just finished Wen Spencer's "Eight Million Gods" (very funny book!) and am now reading Steven Harper's "The Havoc Machine".

It turns out "The Havoc Machine" is actually the fourth in a series, but I haven't read the first ones, so it's a new world set-up to me. However the setting is very clear, easy to pick up on. I've been entertained by the gentle teasing the book does about genre cliches (at least I certainly hope it's deliberate teasing and not meant to be taken seriously; it FEELS tongue-in-cheek...
lines like this:
" 'But you work for him!'
" 'And yet I somehow still think for myself.' " ). Sadly, however, the hero's Tragic Backstory is so liberally foreshadowed that by the time it's explicated, I've already come up with a far more tragic one based on its clues and so the "heart-rending reveal" falls a flat anticlimax.
Still, that's just in chapter three, and is just one scene. I'm definitely going to keep reading.

So I don't know if you'd count it as reading, but...

Picked up "Half-Off Ragnarok" at a used bookstore. I'd opened it up and read the first page or so and it seemed interesting.
Then I take it home, and find out that first scene is a random prologue, has nothing to do with the story, and is basically a lie.
The first scene is this young boy who is testing out an aquarium with his latest find, a little lizard, and it's hiding, and his mom comes in and asks some questions and he figures out what he needs to do to make it come out, and it's a flying lizard, and they're both happy. Yay, cute set-up to who knows what, and best of all it's in 3rd person.
Then the next chapter starts, and that little boy is an adult, with a different pet altogether, and it's in third person, and that first flying lizard pet NEVER SHOWS UP AGAIN, and his mother doesn't either (and she's not tragically dead or anything, he calls home and gets his dad and his father mentions she's out at a flea market with his little sister; she's just not in the book at all).
And suddenly it's now in FIRST person PoV.

UGGGHHHH!

So I basically threw it across the room, then sulkily picked it up and skimmed through it until the end.

Not really sure if it counts. I haven't really *read* it, just skimmed it, but I'm not planning to, either. It might be stupid but I actually feel a little betrayed. So now I'm changing genres to historical romance for a while, because at least those are rarely in first person.
