Wow, you're all collecting figures?
I just collect fans, and funny postcards for the wall above my desk. So those are automatically displayed without taking up shelf space ;) And the fans I don't display, they are for using.
But I'd like another bookshelf anyway, mine is already crammed with books lying across the tops of other books. And I'd like a chest of drawers for my fabrics and sewing supplies that are now just lying around on and next to my desk.
Also, regarding the guidebooks (sorry, I know the conversation has already moved, I'm just not checking in here enough, first week of the semester is always busy) - I can totally understand wanting them for the art or collecting them if they're pretty. I've just never seen one and thought they were more for practical uses.
Edit :oh, I'd like to pick 2 again.

I got #2 today. Do you have a list Chrizine?
Are you planning to live permanently in Japan now?
I don't really collect figures. I just own some thumb sized anime characters which I make a home for on my shelf lol And a pusheen vinyl. Fans? What type of fans? Fans do sound like a nice thing to collect.

I've been formally forbidden to put figures in the living room. I have lots of other things thought XD
As far as figure collecting goes I have only bought one in the last two years. Not only do I have no money but I also don't watch anime anymore. The only thing I'm buying is the year's Snow Miku.
@Poshi: Yup. We're getting married and he doesn't know French, doesn't want to leave Japan nor do I want to go back.
We're not excluding the possibility of moving inside Japan to a place with more space and nature since I'm quite bad with the city.

I think could get more room for mine.....if we got more bookshelves and a cool tv unit.
And yeah the pokemon guide books are cool to look at. Especially the collectors edition ones if I can get them.

Why not figures in the living room? I suppose I wouldn't put figures in the living room either. I feel like they belong in their own glass case to protect them from dust and in a personal study.
Does he speak English or do you solely speak Japanese to each other? You don't like busy cities? I assume you're in Tokyo atm, right?
Ahh, ever since I went to the bookstore and saw the cool illustration books I've been thinking about them and wanting them. I have no need for them but I do love beautiful drawings. My partner and I will probably end up with a lot of commissioned paintings when we live together. He takes after his parents and his mum is an art teacher. We love museums, oil paintings and gemstones. I'm an opal girl :3 but he loves almost everything. I think we might end up with a fairly hipster house.

I don't really collect figures much anymore. I mean, I used to, but it's just too expensive for me nowadays.
I also love art/illustration books...I just like pretty art in general. I can draw some myself and my art is decent, but I don't feel like I have enough elegance or skill to really have the same level of quality as professional artists XD

Yay :) I have some shop items on the wishlist in my profile, those that I need for dream avis. So you can just pick something from there and if I win often enough to run out of them I'll come up with a new list :)
I started collecting fans by taking them as souvenirs from travels. My first fan is from Lisbon, I believe. I have mostly wooden painted fans, since I like that those are designed to look nice from both sides most of the time. I dislike fans that have one pretty show side and a boring backside. I feel like those are just for hanging on the wall, but ugly to actually use. So since I want to use mine, I avoid them. But I have a few that do have a definite preferred side where the other side doesn't look bad but just a bit plain.
Lots of commissioned paintings sounds like an expensive but beautiful idea. It's great if you two both enjoy that kind of thing, so it won't be one of you wanting that and the other one always thinking it's a waste of money or not even something they like.

@Poshi: It seems that the BF has a thing against displaying hobbies in the living room. He doesn't display his either.
Though we have interesting tastes. We currently have a mushroom lamp, a cristal cat, handmade lions, a train, a bear holding whisky and I've displayed the candy bouquet he proposed to me with ^^
I want more things on the walls though.
And we're only speaking Japanese together. We started with English but our levels are too different to have a real conversation.
And yep I'm in Tokyo. It's not a bad city to live in, a lot better than cities I've lived before, but it's still a city and I'm bad with cities.
I'm choosing 3 for today.

That's also another reason I don't collect figures or anything much for that matter. I don't want to fall into an expensive hobby. I do wish I could repaint dolls, it looks so fun, especially redoing monster high dolls.
Same. I've been working on my traditional art and learning how to add more details and doing backgrounds. I've mostly been drawing flowers that look like cabbages or messy squiggles.
Candy bouquet? That's cute. I probably would've eaten it. Handmade lions? That's really interesting. I'm not much of a coffee table decoration person. I see people have baskets or bowls with decor stuff and coffee table books but that just makes the surface hard to clean. I think it sounds like I'm obsessed with cleaning efficiency.
I don't often see people use hand fans, at least not here. I saw a number of fans in Japan that looked gorgeous and chopsticks.

I'm so tired. It's hot and I went for a pokemon go walk earlier. Also Peter started to get sick last night. I guess all that work run him down.
I collect figures because I really like them. But lack of funds is why I don't have much. Though when I had funds I mostly collected pop vinyls.
