Hi, Vineda. Native speakers would be amazing, especially if they are new to your country. Once people start becoming bilingual, their L2 start to colour their L1. Especially if they're late bilinguals, strangely enough. I would love to get some recordings of them saying some Japanese words: some starting with p, t, k, b, d, g and some with those sounds in the middle of the word. Thank you if you can help me and don't worry about it if you can't.
Alice, it sounds like you're a prescriptive linguist. My thesis (which I handed in and got A for back in 2010) was more of a descriptive paper: this is what's happening and these are the theories as to why and this is what I predict will happen in the future. It wasn't treated as a problem that needed to be solved or were there any attempts to correct this that were mentioned in any of the papers I analyzed.
I don't have any contacts in Japan... I was tempted to ask some of my students to record some words for me back when I had Japanese students but I was always afraid of conflict of interest.

no, I'm more of a theorist. so for me solving a problem is expalining what's happening. like "this works but this doesn't even though it should, so let's see what might be that which licenses the first but disallows the second". I'm not a fan of prescriptivism, it's only good on early stages of learning a second language XD

I'll ask around! Who knows right! It definitely can't hurt to try!
