That's good!

Hm, I was going to soak these figs in brandy but we are out and it's not like I've funds left to buy more (we usually only go through a bottle a year). Anyone tried it with rum? Do you think it would work as well?

Oh, I'm not wasting something as expensive as rum on an experiment that's completely unknown! If no one has tried it, I'll just dry the figs instead.

Eh, I've got another day before I have to really choose, so I guess if no one has spoken up by then, then they'll be for drying.

I've had... really really unpredictable results trying to trust recipes from the internet.
I'm sure they created exactly what was intended, but the thing is that taste is really subjective, you know?
If you're talking to someone, you can find out what they like or don't like, which tastes seem more obtrusive to them, what flavors they notice most, and you can use that to figure out how you'd react to the same dishes, and discover whether or not you want to try the recipe.
When all you're looking at is a bunch of reviews giving stars out it gets kinda pointless.

Does that make sense at all?

Maybe there's a rating system out there that goes into more detail, and I just don't know to look for it?

Akili, you do make sense. couldn't you ask someone in real life? my mother usually asks the neighbours. like if she wants a traditional recipe that wasn't handed down until her she can ask the elders of another family in the neighbourhood. because she knows that their food habits are similar.

Hm, I could try at the farmer's market this weekend, I bet someone there would have experimented with some of the odder methods of fruit preservation....
that's a good idea!

Thank you, Mynah
